ABC weather presenter Nate Byrne reveals his drag alter ego Gail Warnings as he undergoes a dramatic on-air makeover

He’s a familiar face to many Aussies who wake up to his weather reports every day.

But ABC meteorologist Nate Byrne was completely unrecognisable on Tuesday when he unveiled a dramatic new look.

The Melbourne-based presenter surprised viewers by debuting his drag queen alter ego, aptly named Gail Warnings.

He ditched his signature waistcoat and shirt in favour of dramatic pink eyeshadow, huge false lashes, over-lined lips and a voluminous blonde wig.

Nate tweeted out a clip of his transformation, writing: ‘Please welcome Gail Warnings. Gai for short. Be kind – she’s a newborn. Quite a hairy one, but still…’

Nate had teased his transformation earlier in the week, tweeting: ‘If, hypothetically, a certain dimpled weather presenter needed a drag name, which would be best?’

He asked his Twitter followers to vote between Gail Warnings, Misty Showers, Miss Thunder Stood, Nina Floods, Philma Oceans and Icee Winters.

Nate also thanked Valerie Hex, the drag alter ego of James Wellsby, an MC at Melbourne’s Yummy Cabaret, for assisting with the character, and circus performer Jarred Dewey for helping him to complete the transformation.

The transformation captured the attention of Aussies with Gail Warnings becoming a trending topic on Twitter on Tuesday.

‘Everything else aside, can we take a moment to reflect on how Gail Warnings is likely the best drag name that has ever existed, or will ever exist?’ a fan tweeted.
