Aly & AJ share explicit version of 2007 hit Potential Breakup Song – Daily Mail

They spent the year focused on creating a new album amid the global pandemic.

And fans were overjoyed to hear a reimagined version of Aly & AJ’s popular 2007 anthem, Potential Breakup Song.

The sisters explained to US Weekly earlier this year that the song needed a ‘facelift’ and changed a few of the lyrics to more suitable terms for their now adult lifestyles.

‘Let’s break up with 2020,’ they captioned an Instagram share of their updated song for their 150,000 followers.

The ‘my stupid birthday’ lyrics are now changed to ‘my f****ng birthday’ and ‘mess up’ was updated to ‘f*** up.’

‘We got along until you did that / Now all I want is just my stuff back / Do you get that? / Let me repeat that / I want my s*** back,’ in another modified lyric.

In August, the sisters — who’s full names are Amanda Joy and Alyson Renae Michalka — explained how the song evolved through the years.

‘We like the song,’ Aly said. ‘I think that we’re proud of it. But I would produce that song a lot differently now when I think about it.’

AJ agreed: “I would love that song to get, like, a facelift. I do like revisiting that song live and playing it for our fans. But I agree. I think the way pop music has changed now, we’d reproduce it and make it kind of a whole other thing.’
