AMBER ATHEY: A luxurious private Biden family wedding at The People’s White House, the press barred, apart from a lavish Vogue shoot – and then Joe holidays at a billionaire’s $20m Nantucket mansion. Has any president acted more like royalty?
Does the Biden family think they’re American Royalty? Because they sure do act like it.
This past weekend, Naomi Biden, President Joe Biden‘s granddaughter, was married at the White House. Okay, no big deal. It’s happened before — in fact, there have been nineteen documented weddings at the White House.
The daughters of Lyndon Baines Johnson and Richard Nixon held their ceremonies at the historic estate – The People’s House.
What was abnormal is that this time the media was banned. Even the Democrat-sympathetic reporters were a bit shocked.
‘Why not just let the press in for a few minutes to have access?’ NBC News’ Kirsten Welker asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Friday.
‘Naomi and Peter [Neal] have asked that their wedding be closed to the media and we are respecting their wishes,’ said Jean-Pierre.
Oh, of course. This is a private affair. Even though it was held on the South Lawn of the most famous home in American history.
The reporters who cover the White House on a daily basis and hold passes to access the complex were offered one measly official photo of Naomi’s nuptials. And to enforce the prohibition on the meddling free press and American citizens, the public park across the street was also closed.
Best to keep the peasants at a safe distance.

Though to be honest if that was all it was – a family wedding subsidized by the taxpayers’ dime – we’d all have moved on by now. Yes, it’s obnoxious, but overall par for the course.
That was until the Vogue photo shoot dropped on Tuesday.
The glitzy fashion magazine was granted exclusive access to the White House on Thursday before the wedding to interview Naomi and capture carefully staged photographs of what the special day would look like.
That doesn’t strike me as the behavior of a particularly private person.
In one glamorous picture, Naomi looks nervous and excited, sitting on a striped couch in the White House Green Room, surrounded by a phalanx of attendants, fixing her makeup, and smoothing out her wedding gown. In another, she strikes a pose and gazes out the window.
Now, while I normally delight in the mainstream media’s misery, they are right to be upset that the administration deceived them about the nature of this ‘private’ event, while arranging to make Naomi a fashion magazine cover star.
One Washington Post reporter tweeted, ‘I spent four years covering the Trump WH and two years covering the Biden WH. What’s fascinating is that they both lie, albeit in v different ways…’
Though really, they should used to it by now. It’s not new that the Biden administration would deny access to the media and mislead them. Biden himself rarely gives interviews, and it’s well-documented that the White House has repeatedly used the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to limit how many reporters attend on-campus events.
But what the lockdown of Naomi’s wedding — and her fluff interview with Vogue — reveals is how stunningly removed the Bidens are from the rest of America.
As Americans struggle to put Thanksgiving dinner on the table amid sky-high inflation and persistent fears of a looming recession, they’re cosplaying kings and queens.
Perhaps Naomi and Peter plan to be the next Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. After all, the former royals similarly claimed they wanted privacy, only to embark on a seemingly endless media tour.
Or is it that The Biden family fancies themselves as the new Kennedys? An American version of royalty that gets all of the money, power, and status, minus the titles. But just like the Kennedys, a deep-rooted, sinister corruption lies behind the veneer of wealth and glamor.
Naomi’s father, Hunter Biden, who walked her down the aisle, is one of the prime benefactors of the immense privilege that comes with being a Biden. His transgressions, from illegal drug use to soliciting prostitution and making a false statement in order to purchase a gun, are all public.
The contents of his laptop, reported ahead of the 2020 election and subsequently censored by social media sites and dismissed as Russian disinformation, strongly suggested he was trading foreign dollars for access to his powerful father and failing to report taxable income. He has yet to face consequences for any of it.
Coincidentally, Naomi chose the Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ for her father-daughter moment. ‘You’re a slave to money then you die,’ goes the song’s second line. How lovely!

Hunter is not the only blight on the Biden family tree. Politico reported on how the Biden family has repeatedly ‘cashed in’ on Joe’s political influence, such as when Hunter, Joe’s late son Beau, and his younger brother James, took over a Manhattan-based hedge fund.
James Biden supposedly suggested the fund would be a way for foreigners to ‘donate’ to Joe Biden’s political future without breaking campaign finance laws. Frank Biden, Joe’s other brother, has admitted to leveraging the family name to rake in donations for charter schools in Florida.
Given the Biden family’s history of grift, it’s no wonder Naomi thought nothing of asking her ‘pop’ to hold her wedding at the White House — and that Joe agreed to let his granddaughter and her betrothed live there for three months during the planning process.
We all know the Biden family has endured terrible tragedy, and who could blame a grandfather for wanting to give his granddaughter the wedding of her dreams. But there must be a limit. The President, the powerful person in America, should exercise some discretion.
And clearly, members of the Biden family would benefit from being told, ‘no.’
Naomi told Vogue in a laughable statement that the couple ‘always knew we’d get married in someone’s backyard.’
‘I think if my pop weren’t president, it would probably be their house in Wilmington or Peter’s family’s backyard in Jackson [Wyoming].’
Of course, the White House doesn’t belong to ‘pop’, it belongs to the American people. And when the average American imagines a backyard wedding, they think of a small, intimate affair with barbecue and light beer.

Naomi’s all-day affair was coordinated by a celebrity wedding planner and featured an outdoor ceremony with what looked to be tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of floral arrangements, a luncheon, and an evening black-tie reception with a seven-foot-tall, eight-tiered cake.
Naomi donned three different dresses throughout the day, including a custom gown by Ralph Lauren, wore earrings worth close to $10,000, and had her hair styled by a celebrity artist that charges $250 for a basic haircut. It’s no wonder Vogue compared Noami to Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco.
I don’t blame Naomi for taking advantage of her family’s wealth and access to get her dream wedding. I am currently in the process of planning my own wedding and would jump at the opportunity to throw my carefully crafted budget out the window.
But it’s time to finally stop pretending that the Biden family has any connection to the working class or blue-collar America. ‘Scranton Joe’ died the day Biden was first elected to the Senate in 1972. His entire family has been leeching off the American people ever since.
Happy Thanksgiving – the First Family is off to their humble Nantucket cottage home next. Just kidding, it’s a $20 million mansion belonging to a private-equity billionaire.
It’s good to be the king.
