Last year, Audi announced “Anniversary package 25 years of RS” for its RS models, offering revised bumpers with aluminum accents, two-tone wheels, and—most importantly—Nogaro blue paint. Yet that package wasn’t available for U.S. buyers, keeping new Nogaro Blue cars out of reach for us. Until today, when Audi announced the “RS Tribute edition” RS6 Avant.

The car comes with gloss black accents, denim blue contrast stitching inside, and special trapezoidal wheels. Tribute editions also get red calipers and the popular Driver Assistance and Executive packages as standard. None of that matters, though. What matters is this edition is exclusively offered in Nogaro blue.

If you’re confused as to why we’re salivating over a color name like a bunch of Porsche collectors, allow me to explain. Nogaro blue is the defining color of the RS2 Avant, a rally-inspired wagon with a raucous turbocharged five-cylinder. It was assembled by Porsche, sold exclusively in Europe, and made in limited numbers. It’s not only an incredible car, it’s the first Audi RS model; it is a center point of the company’s history and the first in a long line of fast Audi wagons.

Nogaro blue was used in marketing materials for the RS2, was the press color featured in all of the magazines, and quickly became the most sought-after, pretty shade for the car. U.S. customers never had a chance to buy Nogaro blue RS2 Avants in their heyday, but Audi is finally giving in. Not only is the RS6 Avant on our shores, but it’s at long last available in the paint.

The catch is that, like the RS2, it’ll be hard to get one. Even if you can afford the $136,800 sticker price of an RS6 Avant RS Tribute Edition, the entire country has to fight over just 25 examples. Order books are open right now.
