Margot has long been attached to play Barbie on the big screen and promised that the movie will be very different to what people are expecting.

She said: ‘Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is’, but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted.”

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star is hoping to provoke ‘thoughtful conversation’ with the film.

Margot said: ‘Now, can we truly honour the IP and the fan base and also surprise people? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we’re really firing on all cylinders.’

A synopsis on IMDB of the upcoming film reads: ‘A doll living in “Barbieland” is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world. A Live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys.’

The film is being touted as ‘a fish-out-of-water story about a doll who is ousted from toy society for not being perfect enough’, according to a report by Vulture.

She then comes to the realization that what’s on the inside is more important than her appearance.

What will it look like?

In April, a photo was released of Margot as Barbie sitting in a pink convertible on the film’s brightly coloured set as fans were teased about the new film.

Meanwhile, the first image of Hollywood heartthrob Ryan as Ken caused fans to go wild on Twitter, with fans dubbing his look ‘terrifying.’

With short white hair, orange tan and a double denim ensemble, fans questioned how stylists had managed to make the normally stunning looking man look ‘not hot’.

Meanwhile, Simu gave an insight into the preparation for the role, saying he had to be fully waxed.

During an interview with The Independent, he said: ‘I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis,’ referring to his waxing sessions as ‘the most painful experiences’ of his life.

Wasn’t Amy Schumer meant to be in it?

All the way back in 2016, it had originally been announced that Amy Schumer would be taking on the role – but she bowed out just four months later.

‘Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,’ she said at the time. ‘The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.’

However, later Amy admitted that it was less about scheduling and more about creative differences. ‘They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it,’ she told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘The idea that that’s just what every woman must want, right there, I should have gone, ‘You’ve got the wrong gal,'” she added.
