On Thursday, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were all smiles on the Los Angeles set of Amazon Studios’ untitled film about the origin of Nike Air Jordan sneakers.

The longtime Boston BFFs were not in costume as they strolled past a Star Waggons trailer while chatting with two other gentlemen.

The sports marketing drama, which began principle photography on June 6, marks 49-year-old Ben’s fifth feature directorial effort.

It’s the first time Affleck has directed 51-year-old Matt, who helped him punch up Alex Convery’s 2021 blacklist script Air Jordan which was inspired by ESPN’s 2015 documentary Sole Man.

Damon plays former Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro, who embarked on a relentless quest to sign Chicago Bulls shooting guard Michael Jordan to what was then the fledgling running-shoe company in 1984.

The Deep Water star takes on the role of Nike co-founder Phil Knight, who was Vaccaro’s boss who pushed him to make what became the most important athlete-product intertwining ever earning billions.

And while no one will be playing the 59-year-old NBA legend – Oscar winner Viola Davis plays his powerful mother Deloris in a cast that includes Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans, and Chris Messina.

The Project Greenlight creators have collaborated numerous times, most recently on Ridley Scott’s critically-acclaimed Medievel drama The Last Duel, which only earned $30.6M back from its $100M budget last year.

In 1998, Ben and Matt made history as the youngest people to win the Oscar for best original screenplay for co-writing Gus Van Sant’s drama Good Will Hunting.

‘I can’t speak for Matt, but my own kind of sanity and mental health really benefited from having someone who I grew up with and knew as a child who was also going through something similar — this 20-year-plus journey of being in the public eye — who I could reflect on it with honestly, talk things over with, be myself with, who I knew why we were friends, why he was interested and loved me, why I loved him,’ Affleck told GQ on September 8.

‘I often think of people who just become successful and then get thrust into this, and I think, “How do they do it without having somebody that they can talk to? Who they can trust? Who knew them before?” It’s just been such an asset to me — and, I think, I hope, to Matt — this relationship that we’ve had.’

Damon added: ‘I don’t want to be his friend in public, you know what I mean? It’s way too important a friendship for that, and it goes so beyond this career or anything. You know, it’s a significant part of my life and not for public consumption in that way.’
