It’s safe to say that Billie Eilish is up there as one of our biggest beauty crushes at Cosmopolitan, from her incredible acrylic nails (which she recently ditched) to her makeup choices (Hello, MILK) to her ever-changing hair.
Of late she’s been growing out the damage caused by a hair-dye incident last year (and Regina George style, inadvertently caused a mullet trend-tsunami, with the likes of Miley Cyrus and Maisie Williams both jumping on board).
And because she’s loyally stuck with the lime-green roots and black lengths combo for quite some time now, we’ve all been waiting to see what’s next from our collective hair icon.
So, when Billie posted a picture to instagram last week with pretty faded-looking green (borderline pastel yellow) roots, fans began to wonder whether she was embarking on a new hair experimentation.
She followed up with a set of Instagram stories last night, one with a close-up of her hair, complete with hair-dye applied – and another with the finished result.
…And of course, Billie found a way to shake us to our core in the coolest way.
“Sooo you thought it was going to be something new?” She begins, laughing and winking at the camera.
“It’s actually the f*cking same! Gets you every time!” she continues, with a slightly evil chuckle.
Long story short, Billie has stayed true once more to her bright roots, with her go-to green refreshed, and bluey-black tinged lengths.
And here’s the thing – while Billie’s prank is all fun and games, it actually makes a super important statement about how much we expect from celebrities (and their hairdressers) these days, in terms of constant switch-ups.
It can’t be fun to be constantly expected to change your aesthetic, and as Billie’s hair-history shows, it can also have dramatic consequences for hair health, especially if bleaching is involved.
Anyway, we’re loving Billie’s refreshed look, and all power to her for sticking to her signature look.
Here’s Billie’s look before the refresher appointment, for context:
Does this mean we’re we entering an age of hair monogamy (working title)? If so, my overdraft is screaming with joy. 💚
