Blaze rips through 17th floor of east London tower block as 125 firefighters tackle inferno

  • BREAKING NEWS: Around 125 firefighters are tackling a flat fire in east London 
  • 15 fire engines were called to the site, a London Fire Brigade spokesman said  
  • 105 calls were made to the control room while a nearby field fire is also ongoing

Fifteen fire engines and around 125 firefighters have been called to a flat fire in east London.

A flat on the 17th floor of the building in north Woolwich in the borough of Newham is currently alight. 

London Fire Brigade stated its control room have taken more than 105 calls about the blaze.

A spokesman said: A four-roomed flat on the 17th floor of the building is completely alight. 

‘Firefighters are also tackling a fire involving around one hectare of grass opposite the block at the junction between Manwood Street and Silverland Street.’

A LFB spokesman said: ‘The Brigade was called at 12.49pm. Fire crews from Shadwell, Dowgate, Dockhead, Shoreditch and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

‘The cause of the fire is now known at this time.’
