Bob Saget’s widow Kelly Rizzo spearheads late husband’s passion fundraiser Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine benefitting the Scleroderma Research Foundation… eight months after tragic death

In honor of his beloved sister, Bob Saget was the driving force behind the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s annual star-studded fundraiser for three decades.

But in the wake of the famed comedian’s sudden and tragic death in January, this year’s Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine event was turned into a special tribute to Saget.

Some of the world’s top comedians and musicians, all of which were happy to call the former Full House star their friend, hit the stage to help raise funds for the Scleroderma Research Foundation, a non-profit that funds research in its search to find a cure, something that was near and dear to Saget’s heart.

His beloved widow, Kelly Rizzo, stepped in to continue the legacy he built with the fundraiser, while late night host Jimmy Kimmel, comedian Jeff Ross and musician John Mayer served as the hosts of the festivities.

Personally greeting all the celebrities and supporters, Rizzo, 43, looked elegant in a form-fitting brown gown that hugged her toned figure.

The eye-catching number came complete with one sleeve and a slit down the right side, allowing her to flaunt her right leg at a moments notice, along with her black strappy heels.

She kept the accessories to a minimum, wearing just a bracelet, dangling earrings and her wedding ring,

Rounding out her overall look, Rizzo styled her platinum blonde tresses about shoulder length, styled long and straight with a part on the right, while in contrast she pulled her hair on the right side behind her ear.

It was through laughter that he was able to touch many lives.

She added, ‘I am honored to continue the legacy he built, through working with Bob’s closest friends to create an unforgettable night with the same goal that Bob had – to find a cure.’

‘I’m honored to be stepping into Bob’s John Varvatos Converse sneakers to host the next Cool Comedy • Hot Cuisine,’ Ross said of his hosting duties, adding, ‘These events meant so much to him and have always been a great bonding experience for us. Bob will be missed, but the show must go on until a cure for this awful ailment is found.’

Saget passionately championed the Scleroderma Research Foundation since losing his sister Gay to the disease in 1994.

Saget joined the Scleroderma Research Foundation Board of Directors in 2003, but he began his involvement in 1991 through the SRF’s annual signature event, Cool Comedy • Hot Cuisine— first as an attendee, then the next year as a performer, and ultimately as one fo the key figures in organizing and producing the event.

Scleroderma is a group of autoimmune diseases that may result in changes to the skin, blood vessels, muscles and internal organs. Symptoms may include areas of thickened skin, stiffness, feeling tired, and poor blood flow to the fingers or toes with cold exposure.

While there isn’t any known cure, there are treatments that may improve symptoms.

The condition most often begins in middle age, with women more often affected than men.

Since 1987, the fundraising event has raised more than $27 million to fund scleroderma research.

Saget was found dead in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida on January 9 at the age of 65. He had performed his stand-up comedy show the previous night just outside of Jacksonville.

A report from the Orange County Medical Examiner, obtained by People, revealed the Philadelphia native had likely fallen backward and hit his head, and thus died from blunt force trauma.

The beloved comedian was laid to rest at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills near the graves of his parents and sister.

Along with Rizzo, whom he married in 2018, Saget also left behind three adult children from his first marriage to Sheri Kramer.
