Brandy Norwood has reached a $40,000 settlement with her former housekeeper after being sued in March for $250,000 for alleged age discrimination and other complaints.

The 43-year-old singer’s settlement with Maria Elizabeth Castaneda was revealed in court documents as the housekeeper’s lawyers demanded additional attorney fees ranging from $39,194.46 to $87,445.80, depending on the court’s method to determine fees, according to an article on Wednesday by the Los Angeles Times.

Castaneda, aka Elizabeth Juarez, in her lawsuit filed earlier this year claimed that she was denied her proper wages and meal break while also accusing Norwood of wrongful termination and age discrimination.

The housekeeper in her 60s worked for Brandy from September 2002 to February 2022 at her Calabasas mansion, according to the lawsuit, and also claimed in court documents that she was paid $125 per day.

The recent court filing suggested that as part of the settlement, Brandy has agreed to pay the amount of attorney fees determined by the court.

A hearing regarding the fees has been set for December 8.

The woman alleged in her lawsuit that she was unceremoniously let go because Norwood did not want an ‘older’ housekeeper and also was not paid for her last two days of work, TMZ reported.

Norwood’s reps at the time told TMZ: ‘We disagree and will have further comments after we speak with our lawyers.’

The housekeeper demanded back pay for the two days lost as well as $250,000 in damages.

It was the second lawsuit filed against Brandy in 2022. Back in January, Norwood was sued over a missing $45,000 ring that she was supposed to wear at the American Music Awards in November.

The Boy is Mine singer and her stylist, Ashley Sean Thomas, were both named in the lawsuit by fashion designer and Beverly Hills studio owner Elle B. Mambetov.

It was alleged that Brandy and her stylist never returned the Dreamboule Big Bang Love Black Ring ring, which is priced at $44,200 on the designer’s website.

The accessory is an 18K rose gold polished with white diamonds featuring a sapphire crystal dome and stunning contrast in the form of black volcanic stone.

According to the lawsuit Mambetov claims that Thomas had told her that the piece of jewelry was last seen on the piano of Brandy’s mansion in Calabasas.

One thing to note is that Brandy did not actually end up wearing the ring at the AMAs as she presented the award for Favorite Pop Album in which Taylor Swift won for evermore.

As stylists often put together several different outfit and jewelry combinations for such high-profile events it is not uncommon for borrowed ensembles to be skipped.

Mambetov sued Brandy and Thomas for the value of her ring in addition to other damages with claims she has not only suffered financial losses but also emotional trauma.

A rep for Thomas later gave TMZ a statement denying the allegations and that he ‘looks forward to presenting the facts in the appropriate forum.’
