Bride falls out with designer friend over terrible wedding invites

Off the guest list! Bride-to-be is left horrified by wedding invites designed by a graphic design student pal that look like they were ‘made by a child using Word’ (and the friendship is now over)

  • Anonymous poster shared photographs of the wedding invites on Reddit
  • The bride-to-be had asked a graphic design student friend to design them
  • She was less than impressed with the results and her mother made new ones
  • They are no longer friends after graphic design student’s invite mishap

A bride-to-be was left shocked when she asked a pal ho studies graphic design to create wedding invitations for her – and the results were so bad that they friendship is now over.

Posting on the That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming forum on Reddit, an anonymous poster from the US shared pictures of the very basic designs.

It was unclear what exactly the bride had asked her friend to design, but the anonymous poster said that she felt that the invites looked as though they had been made on Microsoft Word.

They wrote: ‘Bride asked a friend of hers who was studying graphic design to design her invites. This looks like Times New Roman [font] on a snowflake background!’

The sticky situation was saved by the bride’s mother, who stepped in to sort out the invitations.

‘Bride’s mom (who is not good with computers) ended up designing MUCH BETTER invites on some wedding website herself,’ they explained.

The invitations designed by the bride’s mother were not shared on the post.

Understandably, the invite mishap caused some awkwardness between the bride-to-be and her friend and they are no longer pals.

Adding to the post further, the anonymous user revealed: ‘[The bride] was offering to pay [her friend].

‘When my friend saw these “samples” and decided to politely tell her she didn’t need her services anymore, the ‘friend’ wrote a b****y Facebook status about ‘needing a beer because of certain people wasting her time.”

People were left bemused by the very simple invites – and some said they could have been designed by a child.

One person, who is a graphic designer, claimed that even people with very little skill can secure a place at college or university.

They added that there are few prerequisites for getting into a program and that people with no passion, creativity and ‘abysmal’ skills are passed so that they can keep getting their money.

The poster added that after graduation they find out that they were scammed, adding; ‘The misplaced capitalization and misplaced typography makes me think this was legitimately “designed” in Word.’

Another person quipped: ‘That “friend” hates the bride’ while a third added: ‘I made our wedding invitations in word and they looked better than that (no graphic design background). That looks like a “I only have 5 minutes to finish this” project.’

A separate poster penned: ‘This was not made with love.’

Meanwhile, someone else wrote: ‘Aha they should have waited for the friend to FINISH her degree.

‘At least it wasn’t done in Wingding.’
