A bus carrying dozens of migrants from Nicaragua has arrived outside of Vice President Kamala Harris‘ residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington DC.

According to NBC News reporter Gary Grumbach, the bus arrived from Texas. Footage filmed at the scene showed men, women and young children climbing down the steps of the coach, carrying their belongings.

They were then shown climbing into white vans for the next stage of their journey.

Grumbach wrote on Twitter that the migrants were immediately picked up by volunteers from humanitarian nonprofit group SAMU First Response, who saw the the people’s needs before helping them on to their next destination.

‘The migrants that arrived today were immediately met by volunteers from SAMU First Response, who triaged their needs and travel plans before loading them into vans heading to their organization’s respite to help them plan next steps,’ he said.

The arrival comes after the governors of states including Texas and Arizona have sent thousands of migrants to the East Coast in recent months.

According to the Texas governor’s website, governor Greg Abbott has sent more than 8,400 migrants to Washington DC since April, and a further 5,000 to New York and Chicago – many of whom have ended up in homeless shelters or on the streets.
