The hunt for the Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War trailer was not easy. It was probably one of the most challenging, and extensive game reveals, ever. But, it was all worth it as the reveal was a huge success and the fans absolutely loved it.
The trailer showed two important characters from the previous Black Ops title, Alex Mason and Frank Woods. Additionally, it also introduced Russell Adler and Helen Park, two key figures in Black Ops Cold War. Now, developer Treyarch has provided additional background information on the duo, to help players understand their role in the game.
CIA Operative Russell Adler in Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War
The official trailer shows Adler in a room with Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and President Ronald Raegan. They are shown discussing their strategy to stop the imminent threat, that is Soviet agent ‘Perseus’. But, there is more to Adler than what meets the eye.
The official Treyarch blog uncovers his past as it states “Born in 1937, Adler has become a mystery even to those who have worked by his side for years. His history before joining the CIA in 1966 is known only to a few within Langley. In 1967, Adler was assigned to the MACV-SOG unit in Vietnam, investigating covert Soviet activity.”
Murray Kraft, the lead character writer for Raven Software, describes Adler as a ‘black box’. The blog further describes his character as “He possesses a cold confidence that commands the room. He rarely smiles, but maintains a biting, dry wit. Capable of switching between disarming charisma and emotionless brutality in an instant, Adler enjoys intimidating those around him, and excels at it. His deep knowledge of covert tactics, fluency in Russian and German, and mastery of espionage make him one of the few key operatives that the CIA can consistently rely upon.”
His experience in the field, and efficiency in high-pressure situations, makes him the perfect man for the job. The character seems well-written and the writers did a great job connecting his story to the main storyline.
MI6 Operative Helen Park
Another character the trailer introduced is British MI6 Operative, Helen Park. The blog reads “Helen Park entered Oxford at the young age of 16. While working on her doctorate in international relations, her older brother was severely injured in an IRA car bomb attack in London, leading her to immediately drop out from the program. She began to study the origins and motivations of international para-military organizations, eventually leading her to join the ranks of MI6.”
Murray Kraft describes her as someone who is ‘methodical’ in her ways of operation. She met Adler on an international assignment and the duo works together on several ad hoc black operations. But, she remains loyal to the Crown and the MI6, so there may be a twist in the story.
These two characters will play an important role in the game and in stopping ‘Perseus’. It’ll be interesting to see how the game portrays these characters, and establishes a partnership among them. Black Ops Cold War will be available on November 13th and it promises to be one hell of a ride! Stay tuned for more details regarding the same.
