Carol told Zoe that divorced women and men in particular make the decision to live like she is.

The star, who was appearing on the show alongside George Takei and Josh Widdicombe, explained that she first spoke about her ‘special friends’ on This Morning.

She said:  ‘I first spoke about it about three months ago on This Morning.

‘The phone lines lit up, some women saying very seriously when they were divorced they were made to feel like they had failed.

‘People would say cant you find anyone to love you, like you’re a failed human being. This is an alternative way and a very happy way to live.’

Later in the day, Carol enjoyed a presenting stint on This Morning where she was joined by Gyles Brandreth where they discussed the news that more babies were born on September 27 than any other date of the year.

Gyles revealed that he wasn’t surprised by the news because his granddad had told him all about the ‘Boxing Day bonk’ – the idea that more couples have sex around the Christmas period, making September birthdays more common for their children.

He explained: ‘The next story is exciting, because this I know something about.

‘New figures from the Office of National Statistics reveal that more babies are born on September 27 than any other date. This is not new to me.

‘I’ve known about this for many a year. My grandfather told me about his “Christmas treat”

‘It was known in the family as the Boxing Day bonk.’

Carol immediately exclaimed: ‘Gyles!’ while Dermot and Allison were left open-mouthed.

As Gyles said: ‘Oh, sorry, I don’t think I’m allowed to say that’, Dermot then said: ‘Also, Carol, you’re un-shockable.’
