‘He was a generous presenter to work with, he knew his stuff inside out but was just such a gentleman – he had such a funny, caring side at the same time. He was mischievous!

Charlotte said: ‘When I did Pet Classics, which is where we play calming music for pets whilst fireworks are going off… It was Bill’s show, it’s always been Bill’s show and he wasn’t well enough to do it one year.

‘They asked me to cover and I sent him an email and said “I’m just borrowing your show from you, you know, have it back when you’re well enough”.’

Becoming emotional, she added: ‘I’m going to get upset now…. Anyway, we lost him and he wasn’t able to come back and it’s just so sad.’

Speaking about running she said: ‘Sometimes you’ve just got to look towards that end and think, it’s going to be worth it when I get there. Sometimes, the harder something is, the better you feel at the end, having done it.’

Charlotte wants to continue to spread awareness of prostate cancer in Bill’s memory.

She added: ‘He would want me to continue to spread this important message, for men to get themselves checked, to go to the doctors.

‘You know, it’s the most common cancer in men but if it’s caught early enough, then it’s not a death sentence so it’s really important to spread that message.’

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 & ITVX
