Corey Feldman reminisces with Drew Barrymore about dating as teens after not seeing each other for 25 YEARS: ‘We were such the cute little item’

Corey Feldman had a welcome reunion with his longtime friend — and one-time girlfriend — Drew Barrymore on her self-titled talk show on Wednesday.

The 51-year-old Goonies star was delighted to reminisce about the first time he and the 47-year-old actress-turned-talk show host met, as well as the brief time that they dated a few years later.

Drew was nearly speechless during her introduction when she revealed that the two hadn’t seen each other in person in 25 years.

Corey went on to recall how they first met when he was around 12 or 13 years old, while Drew would have been 10 or 11, noting that it was Steven Spielberg who put the two in touch.

The iconic filmmaker had a special connection to both stars, as he wrote the story for and produced Feldman’s breakthrough film The Goonies, while he is Drew’s Godfather and directed her breakout film E.T. in 1982.

‘What happened was, I got a call one day. My grandmother says, “We got a call from Steven [Spielberg]’s office, and the little girl from E.T. wants to meet you because she’s got a crush on you,’ Feldman recalled.

‘Oh yeah, I did, the biggest,’ Drew replied, adding, ‘But everyone did!’

Afterward, her mother Jaid Barrymore set the two up on a ‘play date.’

‘It was so cute. I remember taking you to the movies, I remember exactly which movie theater it was,’ Feldman continued.

Memories: 'We walked across the street, and you put your little hand up for me to hold. And I held your hand, and we walked across the street. I don't remember what movie we saw, but I remember all that,' he said

‘Of course, neither of us drove because I was still living at my grandparents’, and you were living with your mom,’ he added, and Drew said they were ‘years away from getting our licenses.’

According to Corey, it was a sweet outing between two fast friends, and Drew had a more memorable presence than the film they saw.

They were still young and stayed ‘just friends’ for the next few years, but the two briefly ‘dated properly’ when Corey was 17 and Drew was 14.

Drew recalled how the Lost Boys star was invited to the Academy Awards and brought her with him.

‘I remember you were going, and so, I was lucky enough to be your date,’ she said.

The ceremony proved to be a bit of a shock, as she didn’t realize that the attendees all were dressed in high fashion.

‘I just threw on a cotton Betsey Johnson dress, off the rack. I don’t know how much it cost, probably $65,’ she recalled. ‘I remember getting there and I remember seeing people in such designer duds. And I remember looking around and thinking, “Oh, I’m very underdressed. I’m wearing a cotton Betsey Johnson dress. Whoops!”‘

However, Corey assured her that she ‘looked so cool’ even with her affordable fashion.

‘I just thought we were having so much fun,’ she continued.

He added: ‘We were such the great little, cute little item for the three months we lasted or whatever. But it was adorable.’

‘We were so positive. You and I were such good friends,’ she gushed. ‘We had that kind of relationship where they say, “Date your friend.” We were the embodiment of that. You were so kind, you were such a safe place for me.’

The two weren’t afraid to briefly touch on darker times, though, and Corey referenced both of their struggles with substances before they managed to get sober.

‘We got sober together, we got un-sober together…’ he said early in the interview, before adding later that Drew was ‘already getting your life together’ even as he was ‘still going through my troubles.’

‘You got sober first. You got your act together first. It took me a few years after you,’ he said.
