Coronation Street bring in Hollyoaks villain in an unexpected soap crossover as a new ‘bad boy’ on the cobbles

Coronation Street has cast a Hollyoaks villain in an unexpected soap crossover.

The ITV soap has signed up actor Calum Lill, who is best known for playing P.C. Carlton Smith in the Channel 4 soap in 2021.

During his time on Hollyoaks, Calum had a big part in John Paul McQueen’s storyline which saw his boyfriend, PC George Smith, abuse him.

But the actor has now swapped the  Cheshire village for the Weatherfield cobbles.

Sources have claimed Calum will be playing duty solicitor Joel Deering on the much-loved soap.

His character will arrive in Weatherfield to help Lauren Bolton, and Joel will grow close to Dee-Dee.

A source told The Sun: ‘Callum’s been filming for a few weeks and his character couldn’t be more different from PC Smith on Hollyoaks.

‘He’ll be on screen next week as part of Dee-Dee’s new storyline.’

Calum is best known for his role in Hollyoaks. His character, P.C Smith, first appeared in the village in March 2021 and appeared in 12 episodes.

Hollyoaks isn’t the only show that Calum has landed a role in.

In 2018 he appeared in three short films – I Can See Clearly Now, Sleep Warm, and Heads or Tails.

A year later, he starred in Holby City, playing Chez Wilson-Needham, and also appeared in Brummie soap Doctors the same year, playing Conor Henson.

Corrie star Channique Sterling-Brown recently revealed a dating storyline for her character Dee-Dee Bailey.

Dee-Dee has often put her career commitments first since joining Weatherfield last year, but upcoming episodes will see her start searching for a new man.

Channique shared the first details of the storyline while chatting at an Inside Soap magazine photoshoot to celebrate Corrie’s nominations at the Inside Soap Awards 2023.

Channique told Digital Spy: ‘I think we’re going to see Dee-Dee in a new light. We’re going to see her go on a bit of a dating journey.

‘Her life is a mixture of fun but chaos, and I think fans will really enjoy seeing her try to navigate that world.

‘When she’s in the courtroom, she’s totally in control. I think it’s going to be really fun to see her struggle to quite work things out, so that’s what we’ve got coming up.’

Dee-Dee previously had a brief romantic spark with Damon Hay, remained single since it didn’t work out.
