Coronation Street’s Nathan Graham ‘quits the role of James Bailey’ after three years… with the LGBTQ+ footballer ‘set to suffer a heart attack’

Nathan Graham has reportedly quit Coronation Street after three years in the role of LGBTQ+ athlete James Bailey.

According to The Sun the actor, 31, is set to leave the ITV soap in the coming weeks when his character, who already suffers cardiac issues, is the victim of a heart attack.

The devastating situation is said to then force the footballer to choose ‘between his health and his career’.

A source told the publication: ‘His exit will see him leave behind Weatherfield for a new start away from the street.’

However the door will be left open for the character with his family still living on the famous street.

The source continued: ‘James’ family are still on the cobbles and he will only be a train ride away so it may not be the last viewers have seen of him.’

MailOnline have contacted reps for ITV for comment.

Meanwhile, Nathan’s exit comes as the Bailey family will be getting a new addition on the cobbles with Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) soon arriving on the cobbles.

The daughter of Ed and Aggie is set to make a big impact, and show boss Iain MacLeod recently opened up about what fans can expect.

He said: ‘She’s just a complete shot in the arm. She’s so full of energy and vibrance and she’s just great. So I’m really, really excited to see her crash land into that family’.

‘Loads of fun stuff to play with her being the apple of her mum’s eye, you’ve got sibling rivalry with the boys. And she’s also not that au fait with children’.

He continued: ‘So she’s got a very comedic relationship with her niece Glory (EleanorBeckles), because she doesn’t really know what to do with kids and treats them a bit like they’re one of her clients or that maybe they’re on trial’.

Before adding: ‘She’s just this lovely, bighearted injection of energy in the middle of that family.’

Corrie and Emmerdale also aired extra episodes on Thursday evening after a huge schedule shake-up.

Both soaps were removed from their planned slots on Friday, with Emmerdale catching with a triple marathon of shows.

The empty space came after ITV announced that they were postponing the National Television Awards until 13th October, as a mark of respect ahead of the Queen’s funeral.
