Daisy May Cooper’s dad Paul has told how his daughter struggled during her time at drama school because they ‘knocked the confidence out of her’.
Paul and Daisy, who recently made their debut on Celebrity Gogglebox, starred as father and daughter on the mockumentary This Country.
The hilarious series, which Daisy co-wrote with her brother Charlie Cooper sadly ended after series three.
And while the BBC comedy was a huge hit with fans, Paul told Metro.co.uk the idea was born after Daisy came out of drama school.
‘It started eight years before the first series came on,’ he began.
‘Daisy came out of drama school and she hated her time there, I think they knocked the confidence out of her and they tried to change her and there’s no point doing that.
‘She wasn’t getting any work so she came to the conclusion she had to do something for herself.’
Paul who played Martin Mucklowe on the BBC series went on add that he encouraged Kerry to pursue the idea of making her own comedy.
‘So we got a camera and she was just messing around and she did a sketch called Kerry’s New Camera, where she filmed herself and she had the mum, the Sue character in the background,’ he added.
‘And I told her that she had to do something with it but it took for Charlie to get involved for them to actually get something out there.
‘She needed that person to write with and bounce off.’
And we are so glad she did!
