‘I do my recording far far away’: Dame Julie Andrews reveals she HASN’T met the Bridgerton cast… despite playing Lady Whistledown in Netflix series

Dame Julie Andrews has revealed she hasn’t met any of the Bridgerton cast, despite being the Netflix series’ narrator, Lady Whistledown.

The actress, 86, made the surprise confession during Wednesday’s Today show, letting slip that she records her voice-overs ‘far far away’ from the action.

She told presenter Hoda Kotb: ‘Shonda Rhimes [Bridgerton’s showrunner] and the whole gang down, they’re terrific. It’s a joy and I’m thrilled that they asked me.

‘But I’ve never met the company in person. Of course, I see them on the show sometimes. But I do all my own recording far far away from them.’

When asked what she thinks of the smash-hit, she said: ‘I think it’s gorgeous looking and they’re all wonderful in it and they’re lovely people to work with.’

Audiences expressed their shock and awe over Dame Julie’s Gossip Girl-style narration of the period drama Bridgerton, upon its release in December 2020.

The Sound Of Music star – who’s only a Tony away from elite EGOT status – voices the role of Lady Whistledown, the author of the scandalous society pages.

‘It has been said that of all b****es, dead or alive, a scribbly woman is most canine,’ Julie (born Julia Wells) said in the first episode.

‘If that should be true, then this author would like to show you her teeth. My name is Lady Whistledown, but you do not know me and rest assured you never shall, but be forewarned dear reader, I certainly know you.’

Fans marveled at Andrews’ use of the word ‘b****es’ – calling Bridgerton ‘1800s Gossip Girl.’

‘Dame @JulieAndrews is the Regency XOXO, Gossip Girl I never knew I needed,’ Twitter user Kimberly Lee wrote.

Only two episodes in, Twitter user Shelley predicted that #LadyWhistledown was ‘actually a lord.’

‘Ok who had Julie Andrews as Gossip Girl on their 2020 bingo card?’ asked Twitter user Caroline Ullman.
