He said: ‘I’ve got this [clears throat], she doesn’t love that. I’ve not always done it, maybe for the last 15 years.

‘There’s probably a couple of other things that I do and she’s not. I’m very clean and she’s not.’

Not wanting people to think his wife is unhygenic, he quicky added: ‘As in, I’m tidy and she’s not.

He jokingly added: ‘She washes, from time to time.’

Speaking about his love of fashion, David said that contrary to popular belief, his fashion designer wife never had any influence over what he wore.

He said: ‘People always thougth Victoria had a big influence over what I was wearing or hairstyles or tattoos. I always made the decision of wearing a full leather outfit or full denim outfit. I loved fashion.’

The father-of-four also said his favourite Spice Girls song is Say You’ll Be There which he heard for the first time with Gary while in Maldova.

Gary said: ‘Is it true you invited her to the player’s lounge a few weeks later?’

David answered: ‘Social media wasn’t part of our lives then, no. I just found out she was there. I don’t know, it was just meant to be I suppose Gary.’

David also discussed some of his famous hairstyles from years’ past, admitting his cornrows and mohawk looks were his most ‘controversial’.

He said: ‘Mohawk and probably the cornrows. I had those done in the South of France when I had a glass of Rosé.’

Asked what his favourite hairstyle was, he added: ‘Apart from this one, I always liked the skinhead. It was easy, you didn’t have to do anything with it. I loved the skinhead.’

The sports star said he reckons he now has 81 tattoos and listed his children’s names as his favourites.

He said: ‘I probably have 81 now, individual 81. The first one was Brooklyn on the bottom of my back, the second one was the angel. I was sleeping at your house at the time and it stuck to your bed.

He added: It’s hard to pick a favourite one… kid’s names… and Victoria’s. Throw that one in.’

David was also asked which one of his children is closest to him in personality and gave a diplomatic answer.

He said: ‘It’s an obvious thing. I see a bit of me in all the kids. The stubborness in Romeo, the kindess of Harper, I’d say. Brooklyn is a softie and very caring.

‘Cruz… Victoria has always said I’m quite funny and no one knows that. Cruz is quite a character so I’d like to say Cruz has my funny side.’
