‘It was such a tremendous honor to wield’: David Harbour reveals sword he used to fight a Demogorgon in the Stranger Things finale is the ‘actual’ weapon used in Conan the Barbarian
- WARNING: SPOILERS FOR STRANGER THINGS VOLUME 2
The actor, 47, who plays Jim Hopper in the Netflix supernatural thriller show, took to Instagram on Monday to reveal the surprising crossover.
In episode nine of Stranger Things series four, Hopper and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) face a deadly Demogorgon in a Russian prison after one survives their plan to trap and kill the beasts.
Easter egg: David Harbour has revealed that the sword he wielded in the Stranger Things finale is the same weapon that was used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Conan films
Hopper reaches down on to the ground and picks up a sword – which had been left there after a prisoner used the weapon to fight the monster in an earlier episode – before bravely fighting the Demogorgon with it.
And actor David has now revealed the sword was the very same prop that was used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1982 film Conan the Barbarian and its sequel Conan the Destroyer.
The original Conan film is an epic sword and sorcery movie that sees the character set off to find the sorcerer responsible for the genocide of his family.
In a lengthy caption, David said he was ‘honored’ to ‘wield’ the recognizable sword, which he joked was ‘heavy as hell’ as he asked Arnold, 74, for tips on his ‘technique’.

He penned: ‘Nerd alert. The prop at the end of episode 9 is the Atlantean sword from the CONAN films.
‘A lovely fan found a still of when it was established in ep 7 and used by an unlucky inmate who met an untimely death near the cells at the side of our gladiatorial pit.
‘The real excitement behind this however, is that the sword the incredible ST props department (reveal yourselves guys so I can credit you) gave me is THE ACTUAL SWORD used in the filming of both CONAN films.
‘It was heavy as hell, and such a tremendous honor to wield. @schwarzenegger – ready to accept your notes on my technique.’

Another said: ‘Oh my god! I swear you are all just looking for ways to make this show cooler than it already is!!!!! how AMAZING!!!!’

Weapon: Stranger Things viewers had expressed their confusion about where the sword had come from, but it had earlier been seen in the seventh episode (pictured)
Others joked that they thought it was the sword of Godric Gryffindor from the Harry Potter films because it had appeared ‘out of nowhere’.
The sudden appearance of the sword left fans comparing it to the weapon first seen in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which appears to rightful Gryffindors in their time of need, including to Harry and Neville Longbottom at different moments.
Stranger Things viewers had earlier expressed their confusion about where the sword had come from as it seemingly appeared from nowhere from the floor.
But the sword had earlier been glimpsed in the seventh episode, when Hopper and his fellow prisoners had to grab weapons to fight the Demogorgon to the death.
In a subtle background shot, one prisoner was seen reaching for the sword before heading out into the enclosed space for battle, with the sword then remaining on the floor after the fight until Hopper then picked it up once more in the season finale.

On Friday, Netflix crashed as fans around the world rushed to watch Stranger Things after the highly anticipated release of the final two episodes of season four.
The overwhelming influx of viewers pushed Netflix beyond its capacity, leaving thousands of furious subscribers with tech issues.
More than 13,000 users complained of errors around 3am EST Friday – just moments after the episodes launched on the streaming service, DownDetector reported.
The show’s fourth installment had already set the set the record as the No. 1 English-language series on Netflix after the first seven episodes were released on May 27.
Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 racked up 930.3 million hours of streaming viewership in its first 28 days on Netflix, breaking a record previously held by Bridgerton, another platform original series.
Given the initial success of Stranger Things 4, it should come as no surprise that dedicated fans anxiously counting down the new episodes overloaded Netflix.
The entire platform was down Friday and returned a message telling subscribers ‘this page isn’t working.’ Another message instructed viewers: ‘Please try again later.’
