She explained: ‘Through my childhood at school, I just got bullied by everyone. Boys, girls, and so I wasn’t really able to learn.

‘Everyone just used to like to pick on me, put chewing gum in my hair, like, just to wind me up for their own entertainment.’

She went on to recall that she skipped most classes and stayed at home, telling the podcast: ‘I used to go to school for about three hours a week or something, just picking my favourite subjects and having therapy and antidepressants.’

Things got so bad for Demi that she down glasses of vodka, admitting she took the action after being influenced by her late mother who sometimes turned to drink to deal with her problems.

She said: ‘There was one moment where I got so embarrassed, just by some girls, and growing up, I looked at my mum’s patterns of, say, if she’d have a problem she’d go to drink or whatever.

‘So one day I remember being really embarrassed and my mum was at Weight Watchers and I was home alone, and I just poured myself two big glasses of vodka.

‘And then she came home and I was sick everywhere. I could’ve been 15 or something like that.’

On how that moment affect her, the Birmingham native explained: ‘That was like a big growing up moment. Learning what to do, what not to do and how to handle things, because you just watch your parents’ patterns and then I had to learn, “That’s not the way to do it”.’

On the turning moment in her life, Demi shared: ‘I just stopped going to school really. I just hated it. It was too much for me. But then my whole world became online, so I started MySpace and started posting photos and stuff.

‘Then I got this recognition online and support. Then I gained a bit of a fanbase, I wasn’t that known then, but it just felt so nice to be appreciated by people online. It really did something for me. It was everything.’

These days the beauty has garnered legions of fans, with her Instagram boasting almost 20 million followers thanks to her racy content.

However, the star told how even her mum – who died in 2019 just seven moths after Demi’s dad – was ‘a bit nasty’ towards her and put her down with her words, causing Demi to have ‘non stop pressure’ over the way she looked.

‘Even my [late] mum was a bit nasty to me’ the brunette remarked: ‘She was like, “When I was your age I was more beautiful than you”. So I guess it made me try a little harder, you know what I mean? I just put myself under a lot of pressure.’
