Devotion trailer follows Jonathan Majors and Glenn Powell as two legendary U.S Navy fighter pilots during the Korean War

The tale of two U.S. Navy fighter pilots who became the most celebrated wingmen of all time comes to the big screen this year in Devotion.

Sony Pictures Entertainment released the first trailer for Devotion on Monday, starring Johnathan Majors (Lovecraft Country) as Jesse Brown and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as Tom Hudner.

J.D. Dillard (Sleight, Sweetheart) directs the film, adapted by Jonathan Stewart and Jake Crane from Adam Makos’ book.

The trailer begins with a squadron of planes flying over the mountains, while we hear Daisy Brown (Christina Jackson) tell Jesse Brown (Majors) that he’s, ‘the only person I ever met that belonged in the sky.’

We see Daisy and Jesse back on the ground, getting close, as she reminds him, ‘Just remember you belong down here with us too, OK?’

Jesse is being interviewed be press on an aircraft carrier, with one saying that his commanding officer, ‘called you one of the best pilots he’s ever seen.’

Hudner formally introduces himself to Brown and shakes his hand, saying, ‘It’s good to meet you.’

Both Brown and Hudner are in the air, as Brown says they are, ‘taking a slight detour on the way home.’

He takes them both far below the flight deck, flying just over the beach at just 2,000 feet, which seemingly gets them both in some trouble.

They’re told that the North Koreans just came across the 38th Parallel, as they both head to war.

Jesse tells Daisy, ‘we both knew this day might come,’ but Daisy insists, ‘that doesn’t make it any easier.’

Their squadron leader Dick Cevoli (Thomas Sadoski) says, ‘The most important thing is this: we bring everyone home,’ as we see some of the film’s aerial action.

There is some tension between Brown and Hudner, who says that ‘mistakes will get us killed,’ though Brown says, ‘I can’t tell you how many times people have told me to give up, quit, die even.’

Another shot shows Hudner asking Brown what he wants him to do, and Brown says, ‘Just be my wingman.’

The trailer ends with a shot of Brown flying just above the water again, with Hudner saying, ‘The real battle in all of life is being someone that people can count on,’ as the trailer comes to an end with a shot of Brown destroying a bridge as they reunite in a bar as Hudner says, ‘Show-off,’ and Brown says, ‘That was pretty good.’ 

Devotion, which also stars Serinda Swan, Joe Jonas and Joseph Cross, hits theaters nationwide November 23.
