Disney Princesses stick together: Rachel Zegler defends Halley Bailey when a troll tweeted that she shouldn’t be Ariel in The Little Mermaid

Rachel Zegler has joined the chorus of voices supporting The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey from racist backlash against her casting.

The 21-year-old Zegler, who made her feature film debut in West Side Story and will play Snow White in Disney’s new live-action remake, responded to a tweet defending Zegler’s casting for Snow White… but also bashing 22-year-old Bailey’s Ariel casting.

Zegler clapped back at a troll named Liam Webster, who tweeted his opinion on the casting on Tuesday.

Webster tweeted, ‘Hey @disney, I actually think that @rachelzegler is a good choice for the role of Snow White because she looks just like her. But @HalleBailey is #NotMyAriel. She can be the Little Mermaid on Broadway if she wishes, but not in a movie.’

Zegler responded, ‘if you don’t support my girl halle, who is the perfect ariel, you don’t support any of us.’

The actress’ tweet garnered over 600 retweets and nearly 9K likes in nearly 12 hours since she first posted.

While Zegler and Bailey have yet to work together, they both did meet at the Met Gala last September, with Zegler sharing a snap of them together.

‘This incredible young woman. @HalleBailey the ariel/snow white crossover we deserve,’ Zegler said.

Bailey has not yet responded to Zegler’s tweet, though Zegler is just the latest to come to her defense amid racist backlash to the first Little Mermaid trailer… including a whopping 2 million dislikes of the trailer.

Bailey has also found support from another big-screen mermaid, Daryl Hannah, 61, who played the mermaid Madison in the 1983 smash hit movie Splash, who showed her support on Twitter.

‘The little mermaid is black/I met her/there!’ Hannah tweeted  along with the hashtag #dontbearacistdork.

The tweet got over 4.5K retweets and over 42K likes in just under a day after it was posted on Wednesday evening.

Hannah’s praise comes just after Jodi Benson – the voice actress who portrayed the original Ariel in the animated classic – showed her support as well.

‘Halle, you were absolutely amazing! ‘I’m SO proud of you & your beautiful performance as Ariel,’ Benson began.

‘It was so wonderful to celebrate with your family here at #d23expo and to the brilliant director, Rob Marshall… I’m so thankful for our friendship of over 35 years. Thank you for creating such a stunning film!!’ Benson concluded.Halle reposted the image to her Instagram Story with the caption: ‘Thank you so much… this means the world to me coming from you! You made Ariel magical for us.’

Jodi, 60, backed Halle, 22, in an Instagram Story post and shared that she was 'so proud' of the actress
