Drivers are urged to fill up their tanks urgently before petrol prices skyrocket

A warning has been released urging drivers to fill up their cars with petrol as soon as possible because prices are expected to skyrocket.

The price of fuel at many Gold Coast and Ipswich service stations has already increased by 40c a litre.

But the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland believes that price will jump to more than $1.60 and encourage drivers to fill up before the increase.

Petrol prices have been steadily increasing across Australia with most highly-populated areas charged nearly $1.70 per litre.

Some service stations in Queensland are selling petrol for as low as $1.25 per litre while most are selling it for around $1.34.

Drivers should fill up at any service station that has petrol price at $1.34 per litre or less.

Fuel has also risen in parts of Sydney to $1.68 a litre for regular fuel and almost $1.80 for premium as part of the price cycle, but the rate at which it has increased has shocked motorists and experts.

National Roads and Motorists’ Association Limited spokesman Peter Khoury told Daily Mail Australia that prices at about 15 per cent of service stations were too high.

‘In Brisbane and Sydney the prices are heading up and are coming down in Adelaide and Melbourne,’ he said.

The price increase across the country could see motorists pay almost $25 more on a standard sized tank.
