‘Drunken idiot’ jumps off the stairs and into Christmas tree at his local Wetherspoon’s

A drunken daredevil flung himself off the stairs in his local Wetherspoon’s and crashed into a Christmas tree, leading pub staff to ban him.

Thomas Paul, 26, was filmed climbing the stairs of the Ivor Davies pub in Canton, Cardiff, before jumping off and onto the 15-foot tree.

In the clip, filmed on Sunday, Mr Paul slowly makes his way to the top of the staircase.

A woman can be heard saying: ‘Are you serious? Did that just f****** happen?’ before Mr Paul replies: ‘Sorry I fell’.

Even though his antics got him banned, Mr Paul insisted that he ‘would do it all again’.

He also said he was ‘off his trumpet’ when the incident occurred.

Staff at the pub branded Mr Paul a ‘drunk idiot.’

One worker said: ‘We spent four hours decorating the pub. We’ve got a Santa’s Grotto for the children, and then some drunk idiot wants to come along and ruin it all.

‘Staff were here until late getting it ready. I did a 12 hour shift to make sure it was.

‘He turned around to tell me he had an epileptic fit and that’s why he did it. I watched him jump off the top.

‘People think it’s funny but it’s not at all. Last year this pub did not have Christmas decorations.

‘But we’ve got new management and we tried to do something with it to make it more festive. We’re just disappointed.’

South Wales Police said they received reports of criminal damage but no arrests have been made.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: ‘The customer is now banned and will no longer be welcome in the pub.

‘The police have been informed and the pub will be handing over its CCTV to assist the police.

‘The tree will be replaced and we can guarantee customers that the pub will have its Christmas tree up in due course.’
