A group of England fans claim they outrageously ended up at the palace of a sheikh where they played with a lion cub at the World Cup.

The men, who have travelled to the Middle East to cheer on England, say a chance meeting with ‘one of the Sheikh’s sons’ led to a night wild night before the tournament in Qatar had even begun.

Alex Sullivan said the group was ‘on the hunt for some beers’ when they were invited back to the house of a local Qatari man earlier this week.

He claimed that when they were there the owner showed them ‘monkeys, exotic birds and lions’.

Videos posted online show the group, who were wearing shorts and England shirts, hanging out with a men dressed in thobes, the traditional Qatari garb.

In the footage the men can be seen playing with a lion cub, walking around a spacious house with locals, and sitting in a car as it speeds down the highway.

Speaking to talkSPORT last night, Alex said the group were having a good time.

‘We’ve just been having a good time, having a mooch, getting our bearings right and the setup’s spot on. Yeah, we’ve been enjoying ourselves haven’t we, John?,’ he said.

His friend John added: ‘Last night we met one of the Sheikh’s sons and he took us back to the palace and he showed us he had lions and everything. They’ve made us so welcome. And look around you, it doesn’t get any better than this.’

Expanding on this, Alex said: ‘Basically we were obviously on a hunt for some beers and he was like “we have beer, we have beer” so we jumped into the back of his Toyota Land Cruiser.

‘We ended up at a big palace and we were in the back. He showed his monkeys, his exotic birds, it was nuts.’

It comes ahead of England’s first match in the World Cup later today, with the Three Lions facing off against Iran at 1pm in a game expected to be watched by millions across the UK.
