Eva Mendes defends Ryan Gosling’s platinum blond Ken transformation after fans mocked the look: ‘He’s not playing a real person’

Eva Mendes is a big fan of Ryan Gosling’s Ken doll transformation for the highly-anticipated Barbie movie.

And the 48-year-old defended her 41-year-old partner’s hotly debated look, which sees him rocking a head of platinum blond and an orange tan, during Tuesday’s episode of The Talk.

‘People do know he’s not playing a real person, right? He’s playing a fake person,’ she stated after The Talk co-host Natalie Morales referenced the backlash.

Many fans used social media to blast Gosling’s transformation as ‘horrendous,’ as well as to question how stylists managed to make the normally stunning looking man look ‘not hot.’

The first official promo image of The Notebook actor’s Ken portrayal was released earlier this month.

Posing against a Barbie pink pillar, a white blond-haired and tanned Gosling showed off his shiny chiseled chest in a revealing double denim ensemble with the waistband of his Calvin Klein-inspired ‘Ken’ underwear peeking out.

Mendes recalled seeing the promotional image for this first time and how it immediately awakened her teenaged self.

‘Well first of all, I saw the photo and the 14-year-old in me was like, “Ahhh.” But you know, it’s a funny photo and he’s trying to be funny. So it worked on all levels,’ she explained.

The Hitch actress revealed that she was so taken by her longtime beau’s transformation into the beloved Mattel doll that she asked if she could keep a piece of his costume.

‘When I saw it, he sent it to me from work and I said, “Can I please have that underwear? Please. I never ask for anything.”‘

Luckily for Mendes, Gosling was more than happy to handover his Ken doll drawers.

‘So, anyways, I do have it. I’m wearing it right now,’ Eva joked, before reiterating that ‘there was something about the image that sparked my little teenage [self].’

Mendes and Gosling rarely post about each other on social media as they mostly keep their romance private and under wraps.

The couple began dating in September 2011 after working together on the film The Place Beyond The Pines but were friends for a ‘long time’ before their romance.

At the time, a source told Us Weekly that there has ‘always been this strong chemistry between them.. this was just a matter of time’.
