A former police officer who sexually assaulted two teen boys after grooming them with sexts for nearly a year has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.

Delia Ruiz, a 31-year-old ex-cop in small city in Texas, was sentenced Wednesday by US District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk for the crimes, which saw her seduce and have repeated sex with the kids, whom were aged 15 and 16 when they met in 2020.

Officials said Ruiz, a former officer of the Friona Police Department, sent the younger victim flirtatious messages and lured him a local church parking lot for sex in her car on at least three separate occasions.

During that time, the officer also sent the youth sexually explicit photos and videos of herself, court documents reveal, and warned him not to tell anyone about their meets, because she could get into ‘big trouble.’

Ruiz met the then-15-year-old victim, identified in the indictment as John Doe 1, at the home of the younger teen, John Doe 2, in the spring of 2021.

At that point, fed say, the then-30-old had been engaged in a relationship with the younger victim for roughly half a year, from fall of the previous year.

In a January plea deal, Ruiz admitted having sexual intercourse with the elder victim in autumn 2020 when the boy was 16. She continued to meet with the boy until he turned 17, then moving on to his younger friend.

Ruiz was arrested and fired from the force in October 2021. Neither of the victims were identified due to their age.

The news was announced Thursday by US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad E. Meacham, nearly five months after Ruiz confessed to having sex with both boys back in January, pleading guilty to enticement of a minor.

She further admitted that she began having sexual intercourse with her 15-year-old victim, John Doe 1, in spring of 2021 after meeting him at John Doe 2’s home.

Chad Meacham says she sent the child flirtatious messages and arranged to meet him in a church parking lot for sex in her car on at least three occasions.

She sent him sexually explicit photos and videos of herself and warned him not to tell anyone about what they did because she could get into ‘big trouble’.

She was arrested in October 2021 and later fired from the Fiona Police Department.

In plea papers, Ruiz admitted having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old victim, identified in court documents as John Doe 2, in the Autumn of 2020, and continued the relationship through spring 2021, when the boy turned 17

The Texas Rangers, Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Dallas Field Office – Lubbock Resident Agency, and the Amarillo Police Department conducted the investigation with the complete cooperation of the Fiona Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Callie Woolam prosecuted the case with the help of Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith Pinkham.
