A First Dates star who famously revealed on the show he’d already spent the night with his match after meeting her on the train is jailed for his role in £1.5m heroin ring

Joseph ‘Joey’ Shaw, 28, had previously appeared on the Channel 4 hit romance series First Dates back in 2017.

He made an impression on viewers when he reveled he had already met his blind date prior to the show – the pair originally connected on the train and then spent the night together. 

However, the used car salesman has now been found guilty for his involvement in a heroin ring and will face a six-and-a-half-year sentence.

He and brother, Daniel Shaw, 24, were arrested after the police raided a property connected to the pair on Silkstone Road, Bradford, West Yorkshiere, and seized 31kg of heroin and £100,000 in cash. 

The drugs were discovered in two laundry bags in the attic and the cash was found in a padlocked sports bag.

Joey and Daniel admitted to conspiracy to supply both cocaine and heroin – Joey was also charged with conspiracy to produce cannabis in 2021.

His brother was hit with a substantial ten-and-a-half-years in jail during sentencing at Bradford Crown Court.

A third man involved in the crime, Mohammed Bashir, 42, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of criminal property.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell Head of Bradford District CID said: ‘This is a fantastic result for Bradford District, not only have we removed a significant amount of drugs off the streets but we have put behind bars two men fuelling those streets with drugs.

‘We regularly see the harm that Class A drugs cause both to the induvial users and to our communities where they fuel crime and anti-social behaviour that impacts on ordinary people’s lives.’

Joey featured on the reality television programme fronted by French TV personality Fred Sirieix where he was matched with pink-haired Jodie, who was then 23. 

In one of his more memorable scenes, he phones a friend from the restaurant’s toilets claiming he was on a date with a woman he had spent the night before with.

The pair both knew when they met that they would be appearing on First Dates, however, they had no clue that they would be dating each other. 

‘He seemed like a normal guy working as a car dealer. There was no indication he was involved in drugs’, a friend said according to The Sun.
