A former Jeremy Kyle guest has made some bold claims against TV bosses alleging that he was forced to send incriminating text messages to stage a fake affair with another woman.

Stephen Beer, from Plymouth admitted that he has been on The Jeremy Kyle Show seven times, and revealed that the show almost ended his marriage with wife Michelle.

The 49-year-old initially contacted the programme the first time around after he suspected his wife of cheating on him. Although following their first appearance, Stephen went on to explain that the producers would then use the couple ‘to fill some spots on the show’.

He told Metro.co.uk: ‘I contacted them in the first place but what they do is they phone you about four or five times a day. After that they contacted me asking me to go on the show and asked if we had anything new to say, but every time we were going on there to say one thing, it got changed at the last minute.’

Stephen and his wife appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show in 2016 along with Melissa Ede, in an episode titled ‘my transgender love rival is trying to steal my husband’.

The show saw Melissa go head to head with Stephen over allegations he was cheating on his wife with the taxi driver.

However new information has emerged since as Stephen confessed the whole affair was set-up.

He continued: ‘The producers staged the affair with myself and Melissa, who tragically passed away earlier this year.  She wanted to go on the show anyway but the story about the affair is fake.

‘They also told is to send each other text messages so it would look like there was more going on, but none of it was true.

‘I went to visit Melissa in Hull because we were friends anyway but she told Jeremy Kyle that she fancied me, so the story changed again at the last minute before I had even gone on stage.’

Explaining further what he meant by TV bosses ‘trying to change the story around’, Stephen added: ‘When the producers talk to in the car on the way up, they ask what has happened and why we are going on the show, but then they try to change the story around to make it more interesting.

‘When you get to the studio everyone has their own assistant who would follow you everywhere.  Even if you wanted to go to the toilet someone would follow you just in case you bumped into anyone else on the show.

‘It was like a prison.

‘And even before you go on stage they would put words in your mouth, they wanted to make it a better storyline and they would ask the audience to boo at us.’

A spokesperson for ITV has responded to claims made by Stephen and confirmed they won’t be bringing The Jeremy Kyle Show back.

The said: ‘The physical and mental health of everyone we work with is our highest priority and ITV is committed to working across the industry – including with other broadcasters, PACT and our regulator Ofcom – to share best practice and continue to strengthen and evolve our Duty of Care processes.

‘ITV cancelled The Jeremy Kyle Show in May. We have since made clear that we will not bring back the Jeremy Kyle Show, or any other show resembling its format.’
