A former minister last night called for an urgent shake-up of the UK Border Force – dubbing it the ‘Border Farce’.

Tory MP Andrea Jenkyns wrote to Suella Braverman to demand this month’s £63million deal with France be ‘matched with actions and tangible results’.

She asked the Home Secretary to outline ‘steps you’re taking to crack down on human trafficking and ensure that UK Border Force does not remain UK Border Farce’.

The MP’s letter, published on social media, highlighted how the Daily Mail last week revealed audio recordings which showed the force liaising with French authorities to bring Channel migrants to British shores.

Miss Jenkyns, who was skills minister from July until last month, was caught making a rude gesture to protesters outside Downing Street the day Boris Johnson resigned as PM.

She later accepted she ‘should have shown more composure’.

In her letter to the Home Secretary, she wrote: ‘I ask that you begin a full and wide-ranging review of UK Border Force to ensure that it is fit for purpose.’
