Hooded rapist attacks woman in her 50s on midnight walk home from pub in Dorset holiday hotspot

  • Victim was found lying in a Wimborne street in just before midnight on Saturday
  • Manhunt been launched for slim, hooded man with brown hair who raped victim
  • Dorset Police are also looking for two people who helped her before the assault

A manhunt is on for a hooded rapist today after a woman in her 50s was raped walking home from the pub in a Dorset holiday destination.

The victim was found lying in a Dorset street after she was raped shortly before midnight on Saturday, June 25.

The sex attack happened in Wimborne, Dorset and today, June 27, major crimes detectives appealed for two good Samaritans who helped the woman before she was attacked, to contact them.

Dorset Police described the rapist as having a ‘slim build’ and brown hair and he was wearing a hoody.

Detectives have also appealed for any CCTV or doorbell camera footage from the night.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: ‘We received a report that a woman aged in her 50s was raped by a man in Poole Road on Saturday night.

‘It was reported that the woman had left the Cricketers Arms in Park Lane at around 11.30pm and she was found with injuries near to the Coach and Horses pub in Poole Road at 11.47pm.

‘The offender is described as a man of slim build with brown hair and was wearing a hooded top. An investigation into the incident has been launched by detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT).’

Detective Inspector Wayne Seymour, of MCIT, said: ‘We are carrying out a number of inquiries into this matter and are doing all we can to support the victim.

‘From our inquiries we understand that a man driving a flatbed truck stopped to provide assistance to the woman after she fell over in the street prior to the incident, before driving off and another man also helped by picking up items she had dropped from her handbag.

‘I am keen to speak to these individuals as they may have important information to assist our investigation.

‘I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the relevant time and would urge motorists with dashcams who were in the vicinity, as well as residents with home CCTV systems or doorbell cameras, to please check their footage from the night.

‘I appreciate that reports of this nature will cause concern for the local community, and I would like to reassure the public that a full and thorough investigation is being carried out into this incident.

‘There will be an increased policing presence in the area as we conduct inquiries and local officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.’
