If self-isolating for 14 days in a hotel room to enter Queensland doesn’t sound appealing – you’re in luck.

Thanks to Queensland’s newly-revised border rules, New South Wales holidaymakers have found a clever way to visit the Sunshine State while avoiding hotel quarantine.

Last month, Queensland reopened its border to New South Wales residents who have spent at least two weeks in a ‘low-risk’ part of New South Wales – including Byron Bay.

Since then, droves of travellers are making their pilgrimage to Queensland via New South Wales’ trendy northern coastline – essentially turning their quarantine into a holiday in itself.

Celebrities such as The Veronicas’ Lisa and Jessica Origliasso are making full use of the border ‘bubble’ – with the pop stars currently mid-way through a 14 day stay in Byron Bay ahead of returning to their native Brisbane.

The sisters are joined by their mother Colleen, who is suffering from Lewy body dementia, and Lisa’s husband Logan Huffman.

Meanwhile, residents from all states except Victoria (and New South Wales hot-spots) are allowed into Queensland without quarantining.

Byron Bay has become a somewhat of a celebrity sanctuary since the beginning of the pandemic, thanks to its low COVID-19 case numbers, sparkling beaches and trendy eateries.

In recent years, Byron Bay has also seen an increase in A-list residents, with Chris Hemsworth arguably starting the town’s celebrity real estate trend.

The Thor star relocated to the area from Los Angeles in 2014 with his wife of 10 years, Elsa Pataky, and their three young children.

They now reside in a $20million mega-mansion in the area, with Chris’ brother Liam Hemsworth also a local resident.
