I’m A Celebrity 2022: ‘I find them really hard’: Matt Hancock struggles with anagram-based Deals on Wheels challenge due to his dyslexia
The task saw the former health secretary, 44, and rugby star Mike Tindall, 44, find 99 red balloons strung up, of which they had to pop using a spike on top of their helmets.
However, the balloons contained letters and the duo had to solve an anagram before the sand time ran out – a challenge in which Matt found ‘really hard’ because of his learning difficulty.
Difficult: Matt Hancock struggled with the latest Deals On Wheels challenge due to his dyslexia on Wednesday’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that primarily affects accurate and fluent word reading and spelling.
It can affect individuals of all intelligence levels and can result in poor or inconsistent spelling and writing – along with potential struggles following directions or being organised.
And Matt admitted that he found the task testing and told Mike that the bulk of the problem solving would be up to him.
The politician said: ‘I’m terrible at anagrams, I’m dyslexic, so all the letters are already in an anagram, so it’s on you [Mike].’
Game: The task saw the former health secretary, 44, and rugby star Mike Tindall, 44, find 99 red balloons strung up, of which they had to pop using a spike on top of their helmets
While trying to pop the balloons, Mike exclaimed: ‘This is harder than it looks! Turns out I don’t have the ability to figure out where a point is on my head.’
As the duo started to gather the letters from the balloons, Matt told how he found it tough deciphering the anagram, adding of his learning difficulty: ‘Being dyslexic I find anagrams really hard. All I could see was the word tiny.’
Mike then clicked that the anagram spelled out the word ‘ninety nine’.
Hard: However, the balloons contained letters and the duo had to solve an anagram before the sand time ran out – a challenge in which Matt found ‘really hard’ because of his learning difficulty
Following their great efforts, the duo were delighted to learn that chocolate chip cookies on offer, with Mike begging of his co-stars: ‘Please camp, get this [question] right!’
However, they soon found themselves disappointed as the campmates got the question wrong, with Chris Moyles blaming himself.
Speaking out: On Sunday, Matt once again spoke about his disorder, as he detailed his relief at being told he was dyslexic while at university
On Sunday, Matt once again spoke about his disorder, as he detailed his relief at being told he was dyslexic while at university.
Matt was quizzed by comedian Babatunde Aleshe, 34, on his talents after the West Suffolk MP recently revealed he’d trained as a jockey under the tuition of Frankie Dettori.
The conversation prompted Matt to explain how he struggled with his reading at school, so was glad to find out he was dyslexic, with the politician saying: ‘Instead of feeling I was just rubbish at something and useless, it was ah… so actually I am OK with language, it’s just my brain works differently and I can work on that.’
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues at Thursday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
