This mother-of-two is unrecognisable after losing 8st 2lbs after kicking her daily takeaway habit and deciding to undergo surgery to finally have the body of her dreams.
Describing her eating habits as disgusting, Tara would spend £5,000 [$9,645 AUD] a year on takeaways and didn’t think twice about eating fast food for multiple meals a day.
However, after catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror, Tara said she realised she had to stop as she could no longer keep up with her kids.
In September 2020, she got her gastric sleeve surgery through private health and said she hit her weight goal in just months.
Tara decided to undergo weight loss surgery in a bid to turn her life around and help her dramatically lose weight.
She said: ‘Growing up, I was really fit and healthy, however, as I got older, I fell into bad relationships, which caused me to start having a bad relationship with food too.
‘I eventually met my husband, David, 31, and I then got super comfortable. I was eating so much and the weight piled on.
‘I was a certain takeaway addict. I was having fast food every single day, and I was spending so much money on takeaways such as KFC, McDonald’s, and pizza. My eating was disgusting and so was the money that I was wasting.
‘I lived close to many takeaway venues, so it was convenient to go and grab the food. A particular favourite of mine was a quarter-pounder meal and six nuggets from McDonald’s.
‘I’d have it at any time of the day – breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and sometimes multiple times a day.’
She was also mortified to discover that her eldest son, Tyler, now 15, had kids at school teasing him about having a ‘fat mother’.
She said: ‘ I looked at myself one day and knew enough was enough. My eldest had kids writing on the board at school about how fat his mother was.
‘I felt awful, and I was so unhappy with how I looked too.
‘I was throwing my life away, so I decided to go and see my doctor. I was given a couple of weeks to try and lose some weight before they would give me a referral for weight loss surgery.
‘In September 2020, I got my gastric sleeve surgery through private health, and it cost me just over £3,000 [$6,000 AUD]. If I hadn’t got the surgery through private health, it would have cost me around £14,000 [$27,000AUD].’
Tara’s husband was anti-surgery to begin with as he saw it as throwing money away.
However, Tara says that she was already throwing to fund her takeaway habit and this was a much better use of her money.
She added: ‘I only told my husband I was having the surgery to start with.
‘By December that year, I had dropped over 3st [20kg] and people started to ask questions. They thought I was sick.
‘When I lost 4st 7lbs [30kg], I decided to tell people I’d had weight loss surgery.
‘I hit my goal weight of 8st 9lbs [57kg] within nine months. However, I soon realised that was way too small, and now I am maintaining at 9st 4lbs [60kg]. I feel and look so much healthier.
‘My confidence has gone through the roof and I feel incredible.
‘I have so much more energy too, and I can do so loads more with my sons, Tyler and Elijah, nine.
‘A non-scale victory for me was playing basketball with my son and actually being able to beat him. We had a great time.
‘My husband has always made me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world, but my weight loss has benefitted the whole family. I’m no longer sitting on the sidelines watching them as I can join in on everything and we can do so much as a family.
‘I went from being a timid, shy people pleaser, to having the confidence to say no and saying how I want things to happen.
‘So many more doors have opened for me that I wouldn’t have even knocked at before.
‘It’s amazing to look at yourself and not hate what you see. I finally feel worthy and happy with myself on the inside too.’
Tara says her takeaway addiction has transformed into a clothing addiction as she can now wear things she’d never dream of being able to wear.

She added: ‘The amount of clothes I have bought since my weight loss is slightly embarrassing.
