Harrison Ford has paid tribute to his Indiana Jones co-star Sean Connery following his death over the weekend.

The late star, who played Ford’s on-screen father Henry Jones Sr in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, passed away on Friday (October 30) aged 90.

In a statement, Ford said (via TheWrap): “He was my father…not in life…but in Indy 3.

“You don’t know pleasure until someone pays you to take Sean Connery for a ride in the side car of a Russian motorcycle bouncing along a bumpy, twisty mountain trail and getting to watch him squirm. God, we had fun – if he’s in heaven, I hope they have golf courses. Rest in peace, dear friend.”

Franchise creator George Lucas said in his own statement: “Sir Sean Connery, through his talent and drive, left an indelible mark in cinematic history. His audiences spanned generations, each with favourite roles he played. He will always hold a special place in my heart as Indy’s dad.

“With an air of intelligent authority and sly sense of comedic mischief, only someone like Sean Connery could render Indiana Jones immediately into boyish regret or relief through a stern fatherly chiding or rejoiceful hug. I’m thankful for having had the good fortune to have known and worked with him. My thoughts are with his family.”

As well as his role in The Last Crusade, Connery was best known as the first actor to portray James Bond on screen.

Sharing the sad news of his father’s passing, Jason Connery said that Sean “had [as] many of his family who could be in the Bahamas around him” when he passed.

“We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time,” he added. “A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor.”

Following the news of his death, many have shared tributes to the star, including Bond actors Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan.
