Ireland Baldwin is ‘fully supportive of the Latinx community’ following Hilaria’s heritage debate

Ireland Baldwin has released a further statement, after apparently facing backlash for defending her stepmother Hilaria amid an online controversy about her heritage.

Ireland, 25, had branded those digging into Hilaria’s past ‘sad and pathetic’, following an Instagram video in which her stepmother appeared to ‘drop’ her Spanish accent.

On Monday, Ireland returned to social media to upload a further statement, this time declaring her support for the ‘Latinx community’ and insisting she will ‘do better’.

The daughter of Alec Baldwin wrote: ‘I simply want to say this and then nothing more. I am fully supportive of any individual of the Latinx community. I will continue to listen and learn.

‘But I also feel defensive when misinformation spreads regarding my family. I will do better…At the same time, I hope that people can start getting information from credible sources.’

Ireland’s use of the term ‘Latinx’ has caused further confusion, given that Hilaria, 36, has claimed to be from Majorca, Spain, not Latin America.

Internet sleuths had since deduced she was in fact a Massachusetts native.

Ireland had previously attempted to set the record straight and defend her stepmom on Sunday, after the mother of five announced that she’s signing off for a while.

The Grudge Match actress reposted a Christmas photo of Hilaria and father Alec Baldwin, 62, with daughter Carmen, seven, sons Rafael, five, Leonardo, four, Romeo, two, and Eduardo, three months.

It was accompanied by comment from Tracie Egan Morrissey, who’s fueled the discourse around Hilaria’s heritage: ‘If I were Ireland (Alec’s adult daughter with Kim Bassinger) I would be pissed watching my piece of the inheritance pie get smaller and smaller.’

‘And also, it’s the holidays, and people are depressed, people are going through a lot. I know I’m going through a lot, personally. And the last thing we really need to do is start s*** and gossip about something that is so, so stupid. And about somebody that nobody really even knows.’

Morrissey previously took to her Instagram Story with an overwhelming amount of evidence that Hilaria has lied about being from Spain.

She concluded: 'I have a great relationship with her. And she could be a really malicious, terrible, horrible human who tears people down, but she isn't. Hilaria is a wonderful mother who takes great care of her kids, and she takes great care of my dad. And that's really all that matters to me' (pictured in July, 2015)

It came after Hilaria posted a video update to her Instagram Story for her 854K followers: 'I've said my piece. I'm so tired. I'm going to go back to my family, because I've been not a very good mommy spending a lot of time focusing on this. I just want to be left alone. I love you and I'm going to sign off for a long time'

Ireland added: ‘And this person has dug up old tweets from Hilaria’s high school peers, and they all say one thing about her, that she’s really kind, when they reflect back on their experience with her. And that’s because she is very kind, she’s a good person. And she’s a caring person who’s always respected my relationship with my dad.

She concluded in regard to the original post: ‘I’m not worried about my inheritance, because I’m gonna take good care of me. But thank you so much for your suggestion.’

Ireland also took to the comment section of Hilaria’s Instagram, calling her ‘an incredible mom and an inspiration’ as she supported her amid the scandal.

‘I wish people had the chance to know you and know your story the way that I do rather than from a fabricated nine hour long Instagram story,’ she wrote. ‘I know who you are and I know what you are not and I’m lucky to know you for who you truly are.’

The model/actress, whose mother is Batman beauty Kim Basinger, said she felt bad for Hilaria as she dealt with the scandal and fallout on social media.

‘I love you and I find it really sad that people have the time that they do to play detective and make up a lot of lies and fabricate a lot of truths to fit a story,’ Ireland said. ‘I’m sorry that people are giving you such a hard time during a time that is already so f***ing difficult for everyone in this world coping with the realities of Covid and being without family over the holidays and even losing family during the holidays due to this madness.’

The Los Angeles native said that she’s appreciative of having a stepmother like Hilaria, who tied the knot with her father in June of 2012 in New York City.

‘I know what it’s like to have a really awful piece of s*** woman in your place trying to be my stepmom. And I thank God often that the stars aligned and I wound up with a stepmom like you.’

Ireland noted Hilaria’s connections to Spain, saying, ‘I had the best time of my life dancing with your chosen family that flew all the way here from Spain to party at your wedding.’

Ireland also addressed Hilaria’s cucumber controversy – in one clip, she paused appearing not to know what it was called – chalking it up to the nerves of appearing on live TV.

‘I’ve been on talk shows before and I have been so nervous that I’ve said some really dumb s*** under pressure,’ she said.

Ireland’s social media activity came after Hilaria posted a video update to her Instagram Story for her 854K followers: ‘I’ve said my piece. I’m so tired. She previously responded to accusations that she ‘faked’ her Spanish accent and heritage, as she posted a video to Instagram, admitting that she is from Boston, not Majorca, and her name is Hillary, not Hilaria: ‘Yes, I am a white girl. I am a white girl.’

The fitness influencer added: ‘Let’s be very clear that Europe has a lot of white people in there and my family is white. Ethnically, I am a mix of many, many, many things. Culturally, I grew up with two cultures so it’s really as simple as that.’

She has said in past interviews that she was born in Spain and raised in Boston, also claiming she came to the states at 19 to attend New York University.

But seeking to quell the social media firestorm, Hilaria changed her tune and said that she spent ‘some of’ her childhood in Spain and ‘some’ of it in Massachusetts, where she was born, maintaining that her entire family lives in Spain now.
