Kanye West dons full face covering as he refers to Kim Kardashian during surprise appearance honoring Diddy at 2022 BET Awards … and admits he wanted to be declared LEGALLY DEAD for a year

  • West, 45, appeared to present Diddy, 52, with the Lifetime Achievement Award
  • He donned a black mask with a hat and sunglasses in the appearance
  • He said that Diddy has inspired his ‘wife choices’ in life
  • West’s remarks come after a turbulent year with ex-wife Kim Kardashian, 41
  • West said he wanted to be declared ‘legally dead for a year’

Kanye West mentioned Kim Kardashian – and his desire to be declared legally dead – as he appeared at the 2022 BET Awards Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The 45-year-old musical artist – who with Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, 64, presented Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, 52, with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the proceedings – touched on a number of topics in the appearance.

West onstage donned a black mask with a hat and sunglasses, completely covering his face as he paid homage to Diddy.

‘I go to him for advice to this day,’ West said. ‘He inspires so many of my choices, so many of my life choices – my wife choices – thanks for that, Puff.’

West has had a turbulent year so far in regards to his ex-wife, 41, as he has publicly been critical of her parenting decisions – they share children North, nine, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, three – as well as her romance with comic Pete Davidson, 28.

West said he ‘took a little hiatus,’ adding, ‘I just want to declare myself legally dead for a year,’ but was moved to reemerge into the limelight to honor Diddy on his big night.

‘I said, “I just want to be off the grid,” and Puff is pretty persistent, but I had to think, bro, it’s like, people get amnesia – like I should never have Puff have to ever call more than one time,’ he said. ‘Any of us in this room if Puff ever need us, we need to jump and be there.

‘This man has been through [and] survived a lot of stuff and broke down a lot of doors so we can be standing … he broke down so many doors of classism, taste, swag. Puff, if I never told you, I love you, you’re my brother.’

West was barred from taking the stage at the Grammys this past April for what organizers described as ‘concerning online behavior’ in the form of rants aimed at Kardashian and Davidson. In March, West released a claymation video for his song Eazy, a collaboration with The Game, depicting Davidson being kidnapped and buried.

Kardashian was ‘upset’ and ‘furious’ over the release of the clip, which she thought was ‘way too violent,’ a source told People.

A number of social media users also condemned West’s video for abusive overtones, with some suggesting Kardashian and Davidson both seek restraining orders in the wake of its release.

Things between Kardashian and West appear to have settled in the months since, as Kardashian said on the TODAY show that everything was ‘going good’ after they ‘had Father’s Day at the house.’

Kim, who filed for divorce from West in February of 2021, said that ‘the kids spent the day with him and then we had a big Father’s Day dinner and North cooked.’

In his honoring of Diddy, West said that the stalwart performer was his ‘favorite artist,’ who ‘broke down all the doors’ of hip-hop.

‘How do we crown our kings?’ he said. ‘How do we appreciate our kings? To think how far we could just make it off of inspiration. This is my favorite artist. You see what I’m saying? Everything. Not specifically production, the drip. You know back then it was so many rules to hip-hop. He broke all of them.’
