Karl Stefanovic has spoken about being in the spotlight during his highly publicised split from his first wife Cassandra Thorburn and departure from Today in 2016.

The TV presenter, 47, told TV Tonight on Friday, he’s relived ‘those years’ after behind him.

‘I guess when you’re in the limelight and you’re a public person, stuff’s going to get written. It just surprises me that there was so much, but it is what it is,’ Karl said.

‘I’d organised that months before. In the in the heat of the whatever’s going on, it becomes a big thing when it wasn’t. I was always leaving at that time,’ he said.

‘Mate, I’m glad those years are behind me.’

As a result, the Today show nosedived in the ratings, plunging to a 12-year low.

The start of the program’s downward spiral traced back to September 2016, when it emerged Karl had separated from Cassandra, the mother of his three children.

A few months following the split, he began dating Jasmine, a former-model-turned-shoe-designer who was 10 years his junior.

The pair were married during a lavish four-day wedding in Mexico in 2018.

After his split from Cassandra, a former journalist and TV producer, market research by Nine reportedly showed his popularity with female viewers had plummeted.
