KFC Reveals Its Next-Gen Video Game Console And It’s As Weird As You’d Expect – Forbes

The ‘KFConsole’ is real. It’s an actual thing that’s happening, apparently.

The fast food chain teased the console back in June and took to Twitter yesterday to make the official announcement, proclaiming boldly that “The console wars are over.

The goofy, mock-serious “do the impossible” ad that accompanies the announcement is worthy of the Super Bowl. Check it out:

KFC’s upcoming gaming system doesn’t have a price or release date just yet, but we do know a few things about the machine:

  • The KFConsole is being built in partnership with PC maker Cooler Master. It seems likely that this is more of a custom PC build than an actual console.
  • It will have beefy enough specs, and is capable of running games at 4k / 240fps, something you won’t find often on the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
  • At the heart of the KFConsole is an Intel Nuc 9 Extreme Compute Element which houses an Intel Core i9-9980HK Processor.
  • There’s also a hot-swappable GPU, meaning you can upgrade your KFConsole down the road (unlike other consoles, but very like PCs).
  • Storage is a pair of PCIe NVMe Seagate BarraCuda 1TB SSDs, which is twice the storage you’ll find on an Xbox Series X and nearly three times that of a PS5. Maybe not quite as fast, but still very zippy.
  • The KFConsole is VR ready and supports ray-tracing.

But the biggest and most important thing you need to know about the KFConsole is that it will keep your chicken warm. It does this via its cooling system, which redirects heat to a newly devised Chicken Chamber.

MORE FOR YOU

I do not recommend using this chamber for chicken, however, or for any other edible goods, especially ones with crumbly breading. It’s a . . . novel concept, but probably not very sanitary. This can’t be a good idea for the computer itself, and I’m not sure you should eat chicken that is kept warm inside a custom PC. Besides, KFC isn’t exactly the kind of food you should eat while playing games. Finger-licking good, maybe, but way too messy. At the very least wash your hands before grabbing a gamepad or mouse and keyboard.

So yeah. That’s the new video game console from KFC. Will wonders never cease?

Happy almost-2021 everybody. What a weird year.
