- Harry and Meghan will focus on repairing their relationships with royal family
- Sources say the couple hope to rebuild bridges after their Netflix documentary
- But there are questions as to whether royals will be interested in a relationship
- It comes after trailer for Meghan and Harry’s Netflix documentary was released
- Palace insiders have noted the suspicious timing of highly anticipated release
- The trailer came out on the second day of William and Kate’s tour of Boston
Sources say Harry and Meghan have privately discussed ‘reaching out’ to his estranged relatives after the ‘inevitable furore’ around the project dies down.
But the relationships may be beyond repair – particularly if the documentary and the prince’s tell-all memoir slings more mud the royals’ way.
Senior royals are said to be bracing for the worst and will be prepared to address any unfounded accusations head on after the Prince and Princess of Wales were reportedly blindsided by the release of the Sussexes’ documentary trailer midway through their high-profile visit to Boston this week.
An insider told The Mirror: ‘There is a completely united front from the King and his family concerning the numerous attempts to privately make peace with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which sadly have once again resulted in the other side wishing to air their repeated grievances to the world.
‘If there is a need to respond to anything in the upcoming series then you can be assured that response will be swift and robust.’

While William and Kate were determined to not be distracted by the conjecture, there’s no secret the Prince of Wales has been left especially hurt and angry by the depth of his younger brother’s betrayal in recent years.
‘The trouble is when it comes to the Sussexes and these revenge projects that they are so hell-bent on, people are asking when will enough be enough?’ one source said.
‘It’s not unreasonable in the circumstances to ask whether they are even interested in repairing their relationships with the family.’
A new report in The Sun today also alleged the Queen made repeated efforts to reunite her grandson with his father prior to her death.
Harry reportedly ‘bombarded’ her when King Charles – then the Prince of Wales – stopped taking his calls.

According to the publication, Her Majesty questioned Charles about the matter and he said he was ignoring the calls ‘because I am not a bank’.
The source said: ‘The late Queen was always happy to speak with Harry but when he asked for money she said, ”Why don’t you speak to your father?”.
‘Charles insisted that his son must email him instead. Members of the family, including William, had stopped speaking to Harry when they learned of his book deal, fearing what they said could end up in print.’
The Queen set a precedent when she issued a direct statement following Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview in March 2021.
In the sit-down chat, Meghan claimed a close relative asked ‘how dark’ Archie would be before he was born in 2019.
The Queen suggested ‘recollections may vary,’ on certain events, but insisted the Sussexes will ‘always be much loved family members’.
Harry was accepted into the fold again during the mourning period after Her Majesty’s death, but tensions are said to be rising again after this week’s trailer for their forthcoming Netflix documentary series – entitled Harry & Meghan – suggested the couple still have scores to settle.
As well as including dozens of supposedly private pictures from their family album, footage shows a shot focusing on a pinched-looking William and Kate at the 2019 Commonwealth Service in London, with the Sussexes sitting meekly behind them

The footage includes a voice over from Harry saying gravely: ‘No-one sees what’s happening behind closed doors’ over a black and white picture of his wife on an armchair, apparently crying.
The film then immediately cuts away to a shot focusing on a pinched-looking William and Kate at the 2019 Commonwealth Service in London, with the Sussexes sitting meekly behind them.
Royal sources have said it is being seen as a ‘declaration of war’ by the duke and duchess.
The minute-long Netflix teaser – which is now widely advertised on US television – strongly suggests the Sussexes will confront rumours about their tempestuous relationships with senior royals head-on.

Royal insiders reacted with horror and an increasing sense of anger as the trailer was released on social media ahead of the documentary being broadcast on Netflix next week as part of the Sussexes’ multi-million dollar deal with the streaming giant
In a deliberately tantalising remark to a producer off-screen, Meghan adds: ‘When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?’
It is understood that the streaming giant – who signed the couple up as part of a multi-million dollar production deal – plan to release the six-part documentary in two halves of three episodes each.
The first will come next Thursday, December 8, the three month anniversary of the death of Harry’s grandmother.
The second will come a week later on Thursday December 15, the day the Princess of Wales holds her second annual carol concert at Westminster Abbey to recognise community heroes. It will be attended by other senior royals and broadcast on Christmas Eve.

In addition to the Netflix series, senior royals are also preparing for the publication of Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ in January.
The title is a pointed reference to his position as the William’s younger brother as the ‘spare to the heir’, at least until the future king’s own children were born.
Harry had always held back from hitting out against his adored grandmother, but may have no such compunction now that she has passed away.
He has previously accused his own father, King Charles, of abandoning him both emotionally and financially, while Meghan accused the Princess of Wales of making her cry during a pre-wedding bust-up.
Many of their allegations have been widely condemned or disproved.
Netflix’s statement on ‘Harry & Meghan’ documentary
Netflix said today in a statement: ‘At its core, their relationship looks like many others: they met, had a whirlwind romance, fell in love, got married, had children, and built a life based on shared values and mutual support of each other’s work and ambitions.
‘But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no ordinary couple. Theirs is one of the most high-profile love stories in history, and even the most plugged-in fans and followers of their story have never heard it told like this before.
‘Harry & Meghan is an unprecedented six-part documentary series that explores the span of their relationship, from the early days of the couple’s courtship to the challenges and controversies that prompted them to step back from the royal family.
‘The series includes interviews with family and friends who’ve never spoken publicly about the couple’s relationship before, as well as historians and journalists who dissect how media influenced Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royal family and the Commonwealth at large.’
