Leah Remini slams Tom Cruise as his film Top Gun becomes his biggest hit: ‘Don’t let the movie star charm fool you’

Leah Remini is warning fans not to let Tom Cruise‘s ‘movie star charm fool you’ as his latest film Top Gun: Maverick becomes his biggest domestic hit.

With the star’s action flick is expected to gross more than $792 million in the box office globally in the next few days, the 51-year-old actress and former Scientologist praised her friend, Claire Headley, on Twitter for calling out his alleged ‘crimes against humanity.’

‘Thank you to my friend @claireheadley for your courage,’ the King of Queens star tweeted on Saturday. ‘You have continued to speak out despite the non-stop attacks from Scientology.’

She continued: ‘Tom Cruise knows exactly what goes on in Scientology. Don’t let the movie star charm fool you.’

Remini also shared a screenshot of Headley’s Facebook post, which read: ‘Glad all you Top Gun fans are enjoying the new movie. Personally, recent posts about this movie only serve to remind me of Tom Cruise and his crimes against humanity.’

‘Extreme, you may think?’ she questioned, before explaining her view. ‘Destroying families is a crime against humanity. My opinion. Ask yourself: When is the last time Tom talked to his only biological daughter, Suri?’

She then asked people to recall his ex-wife Katie Holmes’ ‘extreme efforts to break free of his and Scientology’s control.’

‘Tom Cruise promotes a dangerous cult that destroyed my family too, the same cult that almost cost me my marriage and my life. The same cult that forced me to have two abortions, and which I fled from in 2005 with the clothes on my back and $200 in my pocket, to which they tracked me down, across state lines, to attempt to prevent my escape.’

‘Thank God they failed,’ she added. ‘So no, I will not watch the movie, nor will I ever support or approve of this scam of a man. Trust me, Tom Cruise knows exactly who he is supporting and the abuses the organization perpetrates. I worked with him while I was there.’

She then predicted her post would likely ‘disappear’ but felt ‘better’ speaking up.

Like Headley, Remini has been a vocal critic of Cruise, who she claims has ‘manipulated his image’ to serve Scientology.

‘I think it’s time for people to start waking up to the real facts here. Tom has for years manipulated his image to be the good guy,’ Remini told Us Weekly in 2020.

‘Although I believe there was a time when Tom was a decent and kindhearted person, he has morphed himself into David Miscavige [leader of Scientology] and is completely dedicated to Scientology’s mission to “clear” planet Earth — which means making 80 percent of the world’s population into Scientologists.’

In a podcast from June 2020, Remini praised Thandie Newton’s statements about her difficult time working with a ‘really stressed’ Cruise on Mission: Impossible 2.

‘That takes huge balls to do what she did, and if more people speak out in that way, and be brave enough to do so, I think we might get somewhere,’ Leah said on her Scientology: Fair Game podcast.

‘Tom has gotten away with being this “nice guy,” because that’s what Scientology policy says — to create good PR in the world and make those “good actions” known. But if you actually look at his actions, they’re not consistent.’

The Kevin Can Wait actress said she was once reprimanded for questioning why Cruise was the ‘poster child’ for Scientology, claiming that though he was ‘considered a messiah in Scientology,’ Tom is not ‘this super-nice guy’ in real life.

Newton played a professional thief recruited by Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt, who was enlisted to spy on her ex, a terrorist threatening to unleash a deadly bioweapon.

In an anecdote about filming a scene in Spain, the Westworld actress boldly admitted: ‘I was so scared of Tom. He was a very dominant individual. He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot.’

Thandie detailed how they struggled with filming a scene in Spain, in which they battled to get the perfect take of the — as she described — poorly-written scene. She explained: ‘So this scene was happening, and Tom was not happy with what I was doing because I had the s**ttiest lines, and he gets so frustrated’.

After Tom tried to align and improve the scene by getting them each to switch roles to practice, Thandie confessed the method made her suffer more.

She went on: ‘It just pushed me further into a place of terror and insecurity. It was a real shame. And bless him. And I really do mean bless him, because he was trying his damnedest… He wasn’t horrible. It was just — he was really stressed’.

Though she’s now an active critic of Scientology, Leah was raised in the church as a child.

She left in 2013 and has since been vocal with her criticisms of the organization.

From 2016–2019, she starred in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath, which sought to expose ‘shocking stories of abuse, heartbreak and harassment experienced by those who have left the church and spoken publicly about their experiences,’ according to A&E.
