‘The house is a f**king s**thole!’ Lewis Capaldi bemoans the ‘money pit’ £1.6M Glasgow home Ed Sheeran recommended as he states property has been the ‘bane of my existence’

Lewis Capaldi has bemoaned the £1.6 million home Ed Sheeran recommended to him, branding it a ‘f**king s**thole!’

The Someone You Loved hitmaker, 26, decided to move out of his parents West Lothian home during the Covid lockdown in 2020 and splashed out on a five-bedroom farmhouse after fellow singer Ed, 31, sent him a link for the property.

However, in a new interview, Lewis fumed that the house was a ‘money pit’ and was the ‘bane of my existence’ for months as the property needed extensive renovations after being barded a ‘hell hole’.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on his Apple Music 1 show, Lewis opened up about the purchase of the mansion, admitting that he perhaps ‘didn’t look around enough’ and take in the ‘smell’ before forking out a fortune on it.

He told Zane, 49: ‘Oh, I bought a house. I bought a house. It was sent to me by Ed Sheeran. He sent me… He didn’t send me as a house, but he… He’s got a lot,o f f***ing money that guy.

‘No, he sent me the link to it. We became quite close over lockdown, I was asking a lot of questions about second records and blah blah blah, picking his brain a lot. And then I was talking about buying a house and I was like, “Oh, I’m going to move into this place. I’m looking for places around Glasgow.”

‘And then he sent me a link, and I was, “Oh, this place looks amazing.” I went and looked at it and I’m quite like a… I looked at it and I was like, “This is great”.’

Recalling his regret at not having observed the property enough, he continued: ‘I didn’t maybe look around enough, I didn’t smell it. Yeah, I got very excited.

‘And I’m here to tell you, the house is a f***ing s***hole. Yeah, it’s a money pit, and it has been the bane of my existence for the last couple of months.’

Capaldi has carried out a series of renovations to the mansion, near Glasgow, since he moved out of his parent’s Bathgate home in September 2020.

The complex boasts an extra cottage while the grounds feature a summer house and large terrace.

In April, the Scottish hitmaker got the green light to build a stunning swimming pool in the back garden of his £1.6m Glasgow farmhouse.

Lewis lodged plans with East Renfrewshire Council to install a 10m x 5m pool surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

Drawings submitted with the plans reveal the pool will abut the cinema room with views of the back garden.

Separate rooms will contain changing rooms, a spar and a sauna for the pop star to let off some steam in.

Meanwhile, while Lewis was not too impressed with Ed’s property advice, he was happy for the Bad Habit singer’s songwriting skills as he spoke about their collaboration on his latest single, Pointless.

Lewis told Zane: ‘he co-wrote this next song… so he could have actively helped me write a dud knowing that it’s going to end my f***ing career.

‘He’s a lovely chap. I do love him.’

It comes after Lewis poked fun at Ed as he overtook the hitmaker with the UK’s most-streamed song of all time.

The impressive accolade has seen the singer knock Ed’s 2017 track Shape Of You off the top spot with his 2018 single Someone You Loved.

Lewis’ tune has been played 562 million times via audio and video, the Official Charts Company claimed.

According to the BBC, the Scottish hitmaker said: ‘Listen… The Beatles, Drake, Metallica, The Eagles, Michael Jackson, don’t worry guys, no hard feelings, I just had to take this one. Take a step back and let Daddy steer the ship now, OK?’

On beating the Suffolk-native, he added: ‘Ed’s a man who is like a brother to me, he’s been a mentor, he’s put his arm round me and said, “Don’t worry everything’s going to be ok.”

‘He’s been nothing but kind and gracious and beautiful, a good friend in an ever-changing industry. So to Ed I say… nice guys finish last. You snooze you lose, kiddo. Keep up!’

Taking to Instagram, Lewis posed with his award while wearing an inflatable crown.

In his caption, he wrote: ‘just heard that ‘someone you loved’ is officially the MOST STREAMED SONG of ALL TIME in the UK!!

‘Will never cease to amaze me, thanks so much team!!! ❤️ x.’
