Love Island: Paige Thorne’s family hit back at Coco Lodge

‘It’s easy to talk about someone who can’t defend themselves’: Paige Thorne’s family hit back at Coco Lodge after she claimed Love Island star was ‘unkind’ to her in the villa

Paige Thorne‘s family have spoken out in her defence after comments that she was ‘unkind’ in the Love Island villa went viral.

On Wednesday, dumped Casa Amor star Coco Lodge, 27, revealed that her fellow bikini-clad beauty, 24, had a ‘problem with her’ and made jokes about her appearance being ‘four out of 10.’

Yet Paige’s loved ones were quick to hit back at the comments, taking to Instagram to share a statement reminding fans that there are ‘two sides’ to every story.

The post read: ‘Told myself I wouldn’t say anything but here I am lol…

‘Please remember there are two sides to every story. It’s very easy to talk about someone who cannot defend themselves.

‘Those who know and love Paige know she’s an amazing person and I for one couldn’t be more proud of her.’

Hours later, Coco also shared a statement about the incident as she encouraged fans not to send any hate towards Paige off the back of her comments.

She explained: ‘I don’t like to see negativity towards any Islander. Paige did not bully me and I haven’t said this once!

‘When I left the villa I thought me and Paige were getting on really well but since this comment she made has come to life and the whole 4/10 story has been explained I am obviously confused, that’s all I was addressing.

‘This is for me to take up with her directly and I should have never shared my sadness on this situation with you all.’

Coco went on to insist that ‘no one in the villa is a bully or possessive or fake’, going on to insist that they were a ‘family’ who just have ‘tiffs’, and pleaded with her fans not to send any hate towards anyone.

It comes after Coco went on Instagram Live on Wednesday to discuss her time on the show as well as her fraught relationship with fellow contestant Paige.

The reality star who was dumped from the villa this month following an ill-fated romance with Andrew Le Page, said that she had learnt things about her fellow Islander since leaving the villa that had upset her.

Coco began: ‘She had some issue with me where she told Summer [Botwe] she didn’t like my vibe.’

She continued: ‘I said yesterday that she cried, but not really actually physically crying, when Summer said we looked similar, but she got annoyed about it I think because she didn’t want to look like me.

‘And then she was giggling to Gemma saying the boys said I was a four out of ten and she was a 12, which isn’t kind or nice.

‘Then to go and tell my best friend Summer that she “didn’t like my vibes” when I didn’t do anything and I was trying really hard with her [Paige] because she had been the least welcoming to all of us.

‘I tried to form a bond [with Paige] but it felt like she still had an issue with me, I didn’t get with Jacques I just didn’t understand her issue with me.

‘Is it because I’m another brunette in there? I don’t know.’

Coco’s comments came after she previously revealed on The Murad Merali Podcast: ‘There was comments made when the filming was off that I was a four out of 10 by some of the boys.’

When asked who had made the remarks, she added: ‘I don’t know who said it, Summer heard it.’

Coco added that one of the ‘original’ boys was overheard talking about her, with Coco describing the comments as ‘sexist’.

She said: ‘These comments were made and I had a really hard time in there as it was. I was crying a lot for the first few days.’

She went on to talk of the reaction that viewers had to her appearance on social media after she left the villa.

Coco admitted she did not expect people to be so negative after reading nasty comments from viewers online.

She said: ‘I didn’t expect it… it hurts to see because it’s about your appearance.

‘How I was perceived on the show isn’t my personality, they’ve edited me to look a certain way. But to comment about my appearance is honestly hurtful… They don’t choose the most flattering stuff.’

Coco also revealed her father called Love Island producers to intervene due to her mental health deteriorating during her time on the ITV dating show.

It comes after Coco spoke out about the devastating affects an eating disorder had on her body after her weight dropped to just six stone at the age of 17.

She drastically reduced her calorie intake and relentlessly exercised in a bid to get rid of ‘the pouch at the bottom of my belly’ before the disorder spiralled out of her control.

Coco explained that she’s got an ‘obsessive personality’ and, when she stared losing weight and going to the gym at the age of 17, she started to get ‘competitive’.

She said she was eating two egg whites and drinking one protein shake in a day at one point before going to bed at 6pm to stop herself from eating again in the evening.

The television personality said she’d spend up to three hours a day in the gym and would constantly take pictures of herself.

She eventually got a personal trainer and started building muscle healthily before getting further into weight training and nutrition.
