‘She wants a lot of reassurance and she wants all that sort of stuff, and I can’t give her as much as she wants,’ Josh said.

Josh said they broke up after spending a weekend away together and Amelia started crying on the lounge.

‘[Then] we got back and I got home one day, and she was sitting on the couch crying,’ he said.

‘I was like, ”What’s wrong?” and she was like, ”I’m so unhappy. I can’t do this anymore. I don’t know if I’m in love with you anymore.”

‘And that was really, really hard. It came from left field, but now I look back on it I don’t know if it did come from left field.’

‘The signs were all there, she was quite checked out and she was unhappy. It was really, really hard.’

The pair, who met on Love Island Australia back in 2018, announced their split in May.

‘I felt it was necessary to share that Josh and I have decided to split. This was the most heartbreaking yet respectful breakup. After almost four years of being together we decided to go our separate ways,’ she said.

She went on: ‘I don’t know if this comes as a shock because I think we portrayed a happy healthy relationship. And it was that for most of the part, but there was also a lot of challenging moments we didn’t share.

‘No relationship is perfect but there are some parts you have to see eye-to-eye.’

Amelia concluded: ‘Josh and I are on incredible terms (for a breakup) and we want the happiest life for one another.

‘But sadly right now we have to find happiness separately. Of course I love Josh and will miss our crazy special life together but right now this is the best for us both.’

Josh told The Daily Telegraph in February that Italy would be the perfect location to propose to his long-term girlfriend.

‘It might be a good spot to pop the question,’ he said.

Amelia agreed, adding: ‘I would love an Italian engagement. That would be very romantic.’
