Why Women Kill will not be returning for its previously-planned third season.

The news about the Paramount+ series was revealed by Variety, and a statement was given to the media outlet regarding the program’s cancellation.

The show, which starred performers such as Lucy Liu, Alexandra Daddario and Ginnifer Goodwin, was previously renewed for a third season, although plans for the run of episodes have since been scrapped.

The statement about the program, which was made by a spokesperson, began with an announcement regarding its end.

‘Paramount+ has made the difficult decision not to move forward with Season 3 of Why Women Kill,’ they said.

The spokesperson also expressed that the network was proud of the work that had been put into the show over the years. 

‘We would like to thank our partners at CBS Studios and Imagine Television Studios, the amazing creator and showrunner Marc Cherry and the incredible writers, cast and crew for two memorable seasons,’ they said.

According to Deadline, the now-scrapped third season of the program was being developed and performers were in negotiations to star prior to its cancellation. 

Why Women Kill initially premiered in 2019, and it first aired on the CBS All Access service, which later became Paramount+.

The show was created by Cherry, who is best known for creating the comedy-drama series Desperate Housewives.

The first season of the program followed three generations of women who had all experienced infidelity in their relationships.

Liu, Goodwin and Daddario were all featured in the show’s initial run of episodes.

The second season was set in the late 1940s and was centered on a dejected woman who would stop at nothing to gain entry into an exclusive garden club.

Cast members for the now-final run of the program included Allison Tolman, Lana Parrilla and Nick Frost.

The first season of Why Women Kill received mixed to positive reviews from critics, and its second was met with much more critical acclaim.

At the time, the president of Paramount+’s original scripted series branch, Nicole Branch, gave a statement to Variety to express her enthusiasm for the show’s now-axed next run of episodes.

‘We’re so excited that the audience for the series continues to grow, with the second season of Why Women Kill ranking within the top 10 series on Paramount Plus in terms of both overall engagement and new subscriber acquisition,’ she said.

Branch added: ‘We can’t wait to share the new cast of riveting, scandalous characters Marc Cherry has created when the series returns for its third season.’
