Madeleine West’s wacky posts about why her characters couldn’t appear on Neighbours finale

Neighbours star Madeleine West shares bizarre posts about why her character couldn’t join the rest of the cast for series finale: ‘We tried to make it back but Andrea’s still in the clink’

Actress Madeleine West paid a bizarre tribute to the Neighbours finale on Thursday night.

The 41-year-old posted two videos to Instagram explaining why neither her Neighbours characters Dee Bliss/Andrea Somers could appear in the finale.

The videos were scenes from the series showing her character Dee first getting loved-up with Ryan Moloney’s Toadie Rebecchi followed by Dee’s lookalike Andrea in prison for trying to scam him.

The Predestination star jokingly wrote next to the videos ‘Hi Toadie, we tried to make it back for your wedding but Andrea’s still in the clink.’

She further explained she herself could not attend because, ‘I’m now running a yoga retreat in Lombok… besides, either of us showing up might have been a bit awkward.’

Madeleine rose to fame playing Dee Bliss on Neighbours between 2000 and 2003, and has also had prominent roles in Underbelly and The Wrong Girl.

Her tongue-in-cheek tribute to the beleaguered soap opera was met with uproarious approval by fans, with many saying Dee and Toadie were ‘endgame’.

The Neighbours finale on Thursday night saw Toadie finally get his happily ever after by marrying Melanie Pearson, played by Lucinda Cowen.

After two decades of storylines which saw his wife Dee go missing on their honeymoon, his second wife Sonya tragically die from cancer, and Dee coming back from the dead, Toadie’s marriage was the perfect end point for the soap after 37 years on air.

But viewers of the show admitted they were a little disappointed at the storyline because of the 14-year age gap between the couple.

Some fans flocked to Twitter to share their frustrations, with one saying that Melanie is ‘too old’ for Toadie.

‘Haven’t watched Neighbours in years, but just turned over and that woman looks way too old for Toadie!’ one fan tweeted.
