A glamorous makeup artist has opened up about the horrors of eczema and how she has managed to prevent flare ups this winter using a multitude of products and wellness treatments.
Ginelle Dale shared a video to her popular Instagram account on Thursday showcasing her ‘skin journey’ from dry and itchy red patches to glowing and poreless.
But it hasn’t been an easy transition from one to the next with countless experimentation over the past 20 years required – and some special help from the professionals.
‘This is the first winter I haven’t cried myself to sleep in pain, hidden behind makeup and clothing, or spent astronomical amounts of money searching for answers and pain relief,’ she said.

‘The debilitating experience and depression that comes with any form of skin or gut issues is exhausting and I wanted to share a small glimpse into my journey to give others feeling helpless, hope.
‘I wish I could tell you it was one thing that cured it all, but the truth is that it’s many things – a total lifestyle change. A different way of living. A different way of life.’
Ginelle explained that she was born with eczema and was using topical steroids and antibiotics to treat it from the get go, which she now realises wouldn’t have been easy to manage for her gut.

‘What my parents would have endured seeing a baby suffer would have been hard and I’m grateful for all they did for me,’ she said.
‘As I’ve grown into an adult I have spent the last 20 years discovering how to heal from nutrition, mindfulness, movement, sleep optimisation and supplements.
‘Alternative health therapies like acupuncture, chiropractic and kinesiology. From ways to assist detoxification in my body like lymphatic drainage massage, gua sha, sauna, magnesium baths and cold showers.’
In her near constant research over two decades Ginelle now credits Skin and Body Lounge by Natasha, Biologi, Health by Danielle, The Modern Body, Kula Health’s Brendan O’Loughlin and CM Therapy for helping her in her journey to management.
Biologi’s Dermal Specialist Lucy Macdougald’s agrees with Ginelle’s theory that holistic management is the best course moving forward.

‘Our skin health always needs to be looked at holistically so you can gauge what’s happening internally – this can often have a huge impact on eczema,’ she told FEMAIL

‘Our gut microbiome is made up of thousands of microorganisms, or bacteria, that contributes to our overall health. There are both good and bad bacteria and these also live on the skin.
‘A properly functioning skin microbiome can protect skin against pathogenic organisms, whereas disruption in the microbiotic environment can lead to atopic disease.
‘It is always advisable to seek the help from a professional such as a nutritionist who can look at your diet holistically and work out if things like gluten, refined sugars or overuse of antibiotics are contributing to eczema.

Eczema is a broad term that healthcare professionals use to describe a general group of conditions that may cause skin to become red, dry, itchy and scaly, and in severe cases, may weep, bleed and crust over
‘When you start to treat sensitised or sensitive skin, you will want to apply a gentle serum that will hydrate skin without any harsh ingredients to irritate it.
‘We recommend applying Biologi’s Bf serum daily if you suffer from eczema. Bf serum is made from pure extract of finger lime and is a natural source of tryptophan – a powerful nutrient that will reverse damage and repair the barrier function of the skin.
‘Bf serum is also a natural source of vitamin C which helps to reduces inflammation to ease pain and discomfort.’
Alongside the Bf serum from Biologi, Ginelle also uses the Bk eye serum, Bm regenerate, and Energin-C hydration capsule on days her skin needs a little bit of extra help.
